LOCKHART, Fla – A Lockhart mother says she is desperate for help after years of disturbing behavior from a man who lives across the street, including urinating and exposing himself outside her home.
She says some incidents have happened in front of children, including her daughter, who is now having bad dreams. Sabrina Maynard, a wife and mother of three, said the situation has been going on for at least three years.
She said she has repeatedly contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, sometimes on a monthly basis, but feels little has changed.“It really hurts my feelings, and I’ve tried to ask the authorities for help,” Maynard said, fighting back tears when asked how frustrating it is that her daughter has been subjected to the behavior.
Maynard shared videos with our newsroom that she says show the same man outside near her home.
In one video, the man appears to have his pants partially down while exposing and apparently touching himself. Another video taken Thursday morning appears to show him outside in underwear.
Maynard said the man has also shouted inappropriate comments at her, including, “Show me your private area.”
Maynard said she worries not only for her own children but also for others in the neighborhood. “There are other children who have actually been exposed to his sexual organs,” she said.
She said her husband is aware of the incidents, and she is thankful he has not tried to handle the situation himself. “My husband, I’m very proud of him for not taking care of the situation in his own hands, honestly,” she said.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Orange County does not have a ban on public urination.
The agency also said it does not appear the man is violating Florida law on exposure of sexual organs, adding, “We know this can be frustrating for residents, but the buttocks are not considered a sexual organ under state law.”
The sheriff’s office said a deputy submitted a request for a misdemeanor warrant for disorderly conduct, but a judge denied the warrant. “While this may not be the outcome that Brina hoped for, we encourage anyone impacted to continue documenting incidents and calling 911 when a crime occurs,” the agency said.
A man who identified himself by phone as the uncle of the man in the videos said his nephew takes medication for a mental health-related issue.
Maynard said she plans to continue documenting the incidents and calling authorities when they happen.
