Man, woman injured by drive-by shooter in Pine Hills

PINE HILLS, Fla. – Orange County sheriff's deputies are searching for the person or people who drove up in a silver/gray SUV, then opened fire in a Pine Hills neighborhood. The gunshots hit an 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman as they were walking back home from the store.

Deputies say the victims were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and are expected to recover.

Investigators said the shooting happened around 11 a.m. on Monday in the Hiawassee area on Anoka Drive in Pine Hills.  Detectives have not yet released a motive.

"My grandson is doing OK," said the victim's grandmother, Brunhilda Graham. "He's going to have surgery tomorrow on his hip."

Graham said she doesn't know who would want to shoot her 18-year-old grandson or why. She said she also doesn't know if her grandson knows the shooters.

"They need to come and turn themselves in," said Graham.  "I think he's an innocent person, just walking down the road and got shot just because somebody wants to shoot."

Witnesses told News 6 they heard at least five gunshots.

"I just heard the shots and came outside to see what was going on," said neighbor Janiff Grant.

Neighbors saw the 18-year-old woman, who was shot, running to neighbors for help.

"I guess she ran to the front where the basketball court is, that’s where they found him screaming at," said Grant.

If you have any information that can help deputies make an arrest, call the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
