Men posing as officers fatally shoot man in Kissimmee, deputies say

Suspects charged with first-degree murder

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Two men wore masks and posed as law enforcement officers while they robbed and then shot a man who was playing poker in Kissimmee, according to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Christopher Brooks and Crisson Nicolaas entered Versatile Motor Sports at 2700 Michigan Avenue on March 4 and went upstairs where the victim, Davis Houston, was playing poker with a group of people.

A witness said Brooks and Nicolaas were masked and claimed they were police officers, then they "shook everyone down," the report said. Houston was shot "several" times after he refused to give up his belongings, according to deputies.

He died at the scene, the report said.

Gabriel Rodriguez owns a business close to the scene of the shooting and said he heard the sound of gunshots in the distance.

"There's hard working people around here. That's sad that happened, and close," Rodriguez said.

He, like some of the other business owners in the area, no longer stay late into the night and morning for work.

"It's sad, it's sad. It's like what we do every day. It's what we got into for our families, so it's kind of sad that we have to leave early," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said he has seen more law enforcement patrolling the area since the shooting.

"Right now, after that happened, there's a lot of cops that are going around. They go up and down once and a while,"  Rodriguez said.

Brooks and Nicolaas were arrested Wednesday in connection with the crime. They are both charged with first-degree murder and are being held without bond at the Osceola County Jail.
