Orange County mount's rein fighting crime ends with stable retirement

Diesel will join other retired OCSO mounts at Mill Creek Farms

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County deputies held a special retirement party Monday in honor of a 14-year-old thoroughbred named Diesel.

Diesel was given to the department in 2016 and helped train a number of deputies.
The department said Diesel, was a valuable member of the Orange County Sheriff's Office Mounted Unit.

"Horses mainly help our deputies connect with folks in our community and especially our kids," said Sheriff John Mina.

For his retirement, deputies gave Diesel a carrot cake, but instead, the horse only ate the carrot.

Paul Gregory, of Mill Creek Farms, agreed to provide a retirement home for Diesel.

The horse will retire to a beautiful nonprofit stable with former mounts Roman, Hollywood and Dylan in Alachua County, Florida.
