Parents sue Orange County Schools over Snapchatting teacher

Scott John Peters accused of sending nude videos to students

ORLANDO, Fla. – The fathers of two middle school students have filed a lawsuit against Orange County Public Schools after the teens said their teacher sent them a video of himself naked in the shower.

Scott John Peters, 46, was arrested in June after the incidents, which the students claim happened at Lake Nona Middle School last school year.

According to his arrest warrant, the teens told investigators Peters started sending them heart emojis on the Snapchat app.

They said that escalated over one month to Peters sending them videos of his smoking "a blunt," and showing off his alcohol and guns.

The report shows they told investigators it was in November 2016 when they received another video showing Peters naked and showering.

They told investigators it made them feel uncomfortable.

Orlando police arrested Peters in June after they say he remotely erased his cellphone of any evidence after it was seized by court order.

He pleaded not guilty in court Thursday; the same day the fathers of the two teenagers filed their lawsuit.

According to court records, the fathers are claiming the school district was negligent.

Documents attached to the lawsuit show their attorney wants to know what the school district knew about the situation and when they knew it.

They demanded copies of Peters' employment file, the results of their internal investigation and how much their insurance company would pay if there was a settlement.

Officials from the district said they did not renew Peters' teaching contract, so he is not in an Orange County classroom. He was a teacher with OCPS for about 20 years.

Peters' trial is set for December.
