Woman killed trying cross road in Orange City, officials say

Accident occurred at crossing at New York Avenue

ORANGE CITY, Fla. – A woman died in Orange City Saturday after being struck by a vehicle, according to Orange City spokesman Jason Sampsell.

The victim was 49-year-old Carolann Marshall, of Orange City, Sampsell said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident occurred just before 9 p.m. when a vehicle traveling south struck Marshall as she was crossing U.S. Highway 17/92 at New York Avenue, according to Sampsell. He said that Marshall was crossing in a crosswalk but tried to run across the road before the walk signal came on.

The investigation is ongoing.
