But South Florida gaming companies West Flagler Associates and Bonita-Fort Myers Corp. have been trying to stop online sports betting since the Tribe signed a compact with the state of Florida in 2021.

The two companies are now asking the Florida Supreme Court to immediately suspend all sports betting provisions allowed in Florida statutes until the case is decided.

That would also include in-person sports betting, which the Tribe announced it would introduce to its Seminole Hard Rock Casinos next month.

West Flagler Associates and Bonita-Fort Myers Corp. have been suing to stop the 2021 compact for the last few years, first in federal courts and now in state courts. The two companies are suing the U.S. Interior Department for signing off on the compact, but an appeals court ruled in the federal government’s favor. The companies are now asking the U.S. Supreme Court to take up the case.

In the Florida Supreme Court, the two companies are asking the justices to overturn the compact, saying it violates a 2018 constitutional amendment that required voter approval for any expansion of gaming on non-tribal land.
