BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Jennifer Jenkins, the former Brevard County school board member who was a frequent antagonist of Moms for Liberty members and conservative leaders, will run for U.S. Senate next year.
The Democrat announced her candidacy on Wednesday with an introductory video on social media.
I’m Jennifer Jenkins—mom, educator, and fighter. I’ve faced MAGA threats, won in a deep-red county, and delivered groceries to feed my own family.

“Lately, politicians have forgotten how to use their voice, and how to represent people like us,” Jenkins said in the video. “We’ve let MAGA extremists and out-of-touch billionaires take over the country. And while we fight for the minimum to get by, our senator, Ashley Moody, got handed a U.S. Senate seat, knowing she’ll do exactly what Trump, DeSantis and the billionaires tell her to do.”
Jenkins is a speech pathologist who ran for school board in Brevard County in 2020 and won, beating school board member Tina Descovich. Jenkins campaigned against Descovich’s stance on pandemic-era mask mandates and on teacher raises.
Descovich went on to co-found Moms for Liberty.
Jenkins served one term on the board, where she opposed book bans, supported mask mandates, and opposed expanding the school guardian program, preferring more law enforcement officers and security guards to be in schools.
Jenkins became a frequent target of Moms for Liberty and Republican leaders like Randy Fine, who is now a U.S. congressman representing Flagler County and part of Volusia County.

Jenkins claimed she was the victim of a campaign of threats and harassment by conservatives in 2021. A report from Florida Today showed police reports and video recordings backed up her claims.
Jenkins went on to found her own group, Educated. We Stand, to oppose Moms for Liberty policies.
U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Florida, was Florida’s attorney general when she was appointed to replace Sen. Marco Rubio, who became the U.S. secretary of state. Moody’s term is up in 2026.
