CLEARWATER, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference Friday morning at a Hulk-Hogan-themed restaurant in Clearwater.
Speaking at Hogan’s Hangout, DeSantis lauded the pop-culture influence of Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, the WWE superstar who died July 24 at 71 years old.
The governor announced a two-mile portion of Clearwater Trail between Oak Avenue and Coronado Drive would be renamed “Hulk Hogan Trail” in Bollea’s honor.
“It shows that, you know, his memory is going to live a long time. I mean, it was always said, ‘Hulkamania is gonna live forever,’” DeSantis said
Hogan stretched his influence into TV, pop culture and conservative politics during a long and scandal-plagued second act of his life.
For many of his admirers, Hogan remains the flag-waving American icon with a horseshoe mustache and bulging biceps who urged fans: “say your prayers, eat your vitamins.”
