ORLANDO, Fla. – UCF police told News 6 that it has taken down about 30 fliers around the University of Central Florida campus because it violated the school policy.
The fliers were taken down Monday and were spread around on social media.
The posters show two white people with the text, "We have a right to exist."
The group whose website is linked on the fliers, American Vanguard, provided News 6 with a statement.
"Regarding the individuals responsible for placing the posters, the patriots involved have declined to reveal their identities at this juncture. If the posters were cited as a violation because of their placement location, that's only reasonable," the statement read. "If they were cited as a violation because they state white people have a right to exist, that speaks volumes about our current state of affairs, and our enemies are exposing themselves for who they really are."
A UCF Jewish student organization also shared the pictures on Facebook, condemning what they call hateful messages.
"I feel like UCF is a very diverse and I don't think the campus, the university itself believes in that kind of thing. They accept everybody so it just kind of it's not a reflection on our school," said UCF freshman Michaela Irby.
American Vanguard posted a picture on their Twitter account, showing students holding the signs.
Their website warns that the white race will become a minority by 2044, adding "It's time to take a stand."
UCF sent out a campus-wide email Tuesday, reminding students and staff the school's values about acceptance.
The text of that letter is provided below:
"For 15 years, the UCF Creed's core values of Integrity, Scholarship, Community, Creativity and Excellence have guided our conduct and decisions and helped UCF become an engaging and inclusive learning community. We recognize that diversity and inclusivity strengthen us, and we condemn any form of hate, discrimination and injustice.
As we ponder and discuss race, religion and other important topics, our opinions and beliefs will often differ. It is in this spirit that I encourage you to actively listen, engage in scholarly dialogue and demonstrate our shared commitment to respect for all Knights. I challenge you to demonstrate civility. Acts of hate and offensive behavior will not be tolerated.
