CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – A cold Florida winter could impact whether NASA gets to send four astronauts around the moon next month.
Artemis II has a few launch opportunities in February, but first, some are concerned if the cold could impact a rehearsal of launch day.
A wet dress rehearsal including fueling the Space Launch System could happen as soon as Saturday.
If you’re wondering if it be too cold for tanking, NASA’S website on Artemis weather criteria doesn’t say anything specific to a wet dress rehearsal.
Your Cape Canaveral Community Correspondent James Sparvero heard at Kennedy Space Center Thursday managers might be more concerned with the wind that could come with the cold.
As far as we know right now, NASA appears to be pressing ahead with rehearsal.
“In wet dress, we’ll fully tank that vehicle,” launch director Charlie Blackwell-Thompson said during a January 16 press conference. “We’ll go through our terminal count, and we have a planned cutoff at t-minus 29 seconds. We’ll take some time after wet dress. We’ll review the data, and then we’ll set up for our launch attempt.”
That launch attempt could happen as soon as Friday, February 6, depending on what happens this weekend.
