MELBOURNE, Fla. – An 84-year-old man who is in a wheelchair was struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon, according to the Melbourne Police Department.
Michael Chergosky, 84, of Melbourne, "entered into oncoming traffic" near St. Clair Street and U.S.-1 around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, a news release said.

A vehicle struck Chergosky and his motorized wheelchair. He is in critical condition.
The Melbourne traffic unit is investigating the crash.
