Woman convicted of drowning puppy arrested on DUI charges by K-9 officer

'Don't drive intoxicated and definitely don't kill puppies,' police say

EDGEWATER, Fla. – A Florida woman convicted of intentionally drowning a puppy in an airport bathroom was arrested in front of a pet store Thursday on a DUI charge, according to the Edgewater Police Department.

A K-9 officer apprehended Cynthia Anderson, 59, according to a news release.

"Don’t drive intoxicated and definitely don’t kill puppies," the Edgewater Police Department wrote on its Facebook page.

Police said someone called 911 around 3 p.m. to report that Anderson had been sitting in the front seat of her Ford F450 while parked in a plaza on South Ridgewood Avenue for about an hour.

"There is a woman in a Ford. She was sleeping in her truck and she is now trying to drive and she does not look okay," said a woman on the phone with 911.

When an officer arrived, Anderson said her prescribed hydrocodone and valium were making her feel sleepy, according to the report. The officer said Anderson's speech was slurred, that she had problems maintaining balance and her tongue, lips and teeth were blue as if she had been drinking something.

According to the report, Anderson failed a series of field sobriety tests.

Officers said they also found a can of Four LOKO in her truck, a Ford F-450 with the pink word "Cynful" plastered on the front.  News 6 found Anderson's truck parked at Edgewater Towing and Recovery shop.

Investigators said Anderson showed up to the shop after bonding out of jail for a DUI.

"I have a woman in my office trying to retrieve a vehicle with no picture ID and she's kind of in rough shape," said an employee during a 911 call.

An ambulance picked up Anderson for a medical episode and took her to the hospital.

News 6 went to Anderson's home but no one was there. Police said she now violated her probation again, by adding a DUI to the list.

Webb said Anderson could be jailed again for violating her probation.

In 2015, Anderson was convicted of drowning a 3-week-old puppy in a bathroom at a Nebraska airport because the canine was too young to board the flight.

Officials said Anderson violated her probation earlier this year when a tipster told authorities that she had a dog in her possession, even though the court barred her from owning animals.

She was arrested in March in connection with that violation of probation.
