Mother of 2 shot, killed at Orange County home

Victim identified as Michelle Cohen

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 36-year-old mother of two was shot and killed late Thursday at a home in Orange County, deputies said.

Orange County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Ingrid Tejada-Monforte said the shooting was reported at 10:57 p.m. in the 4000 block of Seybold Avenue, near North Lane and North Pine Hills Road.

Tejada-Monforte said deputies were called to the home and found Michelle Cohen unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Cohen was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, Tejada-Monforte said.

Deputies said they questioned Cohen's boyfriend, but it's not known who shot her. He has not been identified as a suspect.

Cohen lived at the house with her two teenage daughters, ages 13 and 17, Tejada-Monforte said. The 13-year-old was home at the time of the shooting, Tejada-Monforte said.

"We're shocked. We're hurt. We're devastated. We're looking forward to the sheriff's department to do a full investigation to find whoever this gun-toting shooting coward might be," said Fancina Boykin, Cohen's aunt. "My niece is deceased. It's tough. It's tough. There's so much violence. She has been taken away from her two lovely daughters."

Boykin told News 6 that the victim's mother, Darlene Boykin, was also killed in 2004 when she was allegedly shot by her longtime boyfriend.

An investigation is ongoing.

"My niece was a loving mother and a hard worker, and for this to happen to her is just senseless," Boykin said.
