Sizzling heat lingering into the weekend 🥵
ORLANDO, Fla. – Hi Insiders, it’s meteorologist Michelle Morgan here, and I want to chat about decent rain chances returning to the forecast as we wrap up the work week and near-record heat this weekend.
Before we get to the heat, many counties along the I-4 corridor are dealing with drought conditions, so beneficial rain is needed. Thursday and Friday, many counties are expected to get scattered rain with a few embedded thunderstorms.
Now back to the heat! May just wrapped up as the hottest month ever recorded in Orlando, Melbourne, Sanford and Leesburg, with Daytona Beach coming in second. It’s been scorching!
As we start June on a sizzling note, temperatures are expected to approach record highs across Central Florida this weekend all thanks to a weather phenomenon known as the “heat dome.”
Unfortunately, this pattern is sticking around for the weekend into the first half of next week. Remember the drill: stay hydrated, wear light clothes and if possible, try to stay indoors to beat the heat and make sure pets have plenty of water too.
With that in mind, there are many fun activities happening around town to help you stay cool. This weekend, the largest LEGO Brick Fan expo is coming to Orlando. Bring the family and enjoy this amazing indoor event with celebrity guests, master builders, community partners, interactive exhibits, and all of Dezerland Park’s attractions. Click here for more information. It’s also ‘Summer of the Fairies’ at Leu Gardens if you’re willing to brave the heat. That event also starts this weekend. Stay cool!
Thursday marked 80 years since the D-Day invasion. What’s going on, guys? Meteorologist Jonathan Kegges with you. While the brave soldiers that stormed the beaches were the reason for the successful invasion, did you know an incorrect weather forecast may have derailed the invasion and possibly changed history.
Check out the latest edition of Weather Wise. We get into the last minute postponement of the invasion and break down the weather maps from June 1944.
