I am blown away from seeing “The Lion King” last night. Between the puppetry, the music and the performances, visually, the show is impressive!

Hey, I’m News 6 producer Brooke Savage, the writer behind this Setting The Stage newsletter.

Let’s take a look at what you have to look forward to in the local theatre and arts scene. ⤵

🦁 “The Lion King” is in Orlando for nearly 4 weeks!

The Broadway show has won six Tony awards, including Best Musical.

“The Lion King” brings Pride Rock, animals and the entire Serengeti to life on the big stage and in the audience!

Last week, I spoke with Erick D. Patrick, who plays Simba. He gave some great behind-the-scenes info and even shared with me that at first, he was hesitant to audition for the role! Lisa Bell also saw the show. See her review and click here for ticket information.

In my last newsletter, I told you how Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts released the 2025/26 season lineup! It includes shows like “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “The Wiz,” “Hadestown” and “Six.”

Now, we know what’s coming to the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne!

I’m pretty excited about this lineup of shows too: “The Book of Mormon,” “Tina – The Tina Turner Musical,” Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man” and “Beetlejuice.” I posted the details on each show.

🔵 Blue Man Group releases when the show will return

I have another update for you! We now have a better idea of when Blue Man Group will be moving into Icon Park on International Drive.

In September, Orange County leaders broke ground on a 500-seat theater beneath the Orlando Eye, and in October, Blue Man Group announced tickets would start going on sale last earlier this month.

Sky 6 flew over the construction site and so far, we’re just seeing a dirt plot. Blue Man Group sent us a statement. They said they’ve seen several unexpected construction delays that have ultimately pushed the grand opening date to later this year.

Digital Content Producer Haley Coomes wrote a web story all about their return here.
