ORLANDO, Fla. – Hey, News 6 Insiders. Meteorologist Michelle Morgan here!
This weekend is looking a bit soggy for many across Central Florida with higher rain chances on the way. It’s not going to be a total washout, but you’ll want to keep the umbrella close by. And yes — the summer heat will still be cranking.
As many counties enjoy their last weekend of summer break before kids head back to school, I’ve put together another round of my “6 Things To Do” that are fun, educational, and a great way to beat the heat (and dodge a few showers).
One of the highlights — how about celebrating National Lighthouse Day by exploring the history of Florida’s tallest lighthouse at 175 feet in height?
The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is hosting a special event this Saturday with guided tours and hands-on workshops. It’s a perfect mix of learning and adventure. Just don’t forget your sunscreen and maybe an umbrella — you could be ducking in and out of a few showers.
Also happening this weekend — the Daytona Beach Cleanup Day on Sunday. To join in, head to the beach in front of the Sun Splash parking lot and look for the red “cleanup” flag and buckets. The beach squad will be there, ready to go.
A few sun-safe tips:
- Use ocean-friendly sunscreen
- Wear a UV-protective long-sleeve shirt
- Don’t forget your hat and sunglasses
You can check out the full list of events here. And if you’ve got a fun event coming up, I’d love to hear about it!
You can send it through the News 6 app, visit ClickOrlando.com and click on “Contact Us,” or just email me directly at mmorgan@wkmg.com.
Oh — and if you’re out and about, don’t forget to share your pictures on our PinIt! page.
Is your car’s thermistor telling the truth? 🚗
If you’ve ever looked at your dashboard and thought, “There’s no way it’s that hot,” you’re probably right.
Hey there Insiders! It’s Meteorologist Samara Cokinos here to chat about what you see on your dash.
Car thermistors often read several degrees higher than the actual temperature and there’s a good reason why.
Click here to see how your car’s sensor works, why it tends to exaggerate on hot days, and where to turn for more accurate readings.
🌪️Tornado touchdown Monday
The return of our typical sea breeze thunderstorms has been wild.
What’s going on guys? Meteorologist Jonathan Kegges back with you.
The lightning has been prolific and the rainfall heavy. Things got even wilder when one cell dropped a tornado.
Now we weren’t in a tornado-producing environment, but obviously one developed. Here’s how it happened and we always have to be on guard when those summer storms strike.
