With construction rising at Universal Studios, Universal Orlando was due to announce details on its newest coaster.

When Universal dropped an attraction teaser last weekend showing a speedometer, the first thing I noticed was that the needle went up to roughly the 70 mph mark. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, set to open this year at Universal Studios Hollywood, reaches maximum speeds of up to 72 miles per hour.
On Tuesday, Universal Orlando confirmed what many speculated: Hollywood Drift is replacing Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.
While the coaster theme had many fans guessing up until the announcements, there was no question about one detail: it was going to be intellectual property (IP).
I think back to the coverage we did leading up to Epic Universe’s opening. IP leads all future projects at Universal Orlando.
Disney has made it clear that IP is the future as well.

Reopening in March, the Garden View Lounge at Disney’s Grand Floridian is serving up a whimsical “Alice in Wonderland” tea party where sipping Twinings blends and nibbling on flamingo croquet choux is totally encouraged.
Disney dropped the full menu this week, and it won’t be long before you can make a reservation.

The Junior Galaxy Explorers Search wrapped up its Florida tour, and the final stop was very fitting.
Young space enthusiasts competed by designing original LEGO spacecraft at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
The challenge, judged by astronaut Winston Scott, tied into the upcoming LEGO Galaxy opening featuring the Galacticoaster roller coaster debuting next month.
I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Scott last fall. I was excited to get a pic with him then. If I had the opportunity to pose with him and my LEGO model? That would be a “dream big” moment.
While Hollywood Drift’s arrival won’t be until 2027, there is still a lot to look forward to this year at Central Florida’s theme parks.
