Josh D’Amaro was a key voice at Destination D23 2023, when some major projects were first announced.
Now, he’s set to drive the Walt Disney Company’s future as its next CEO.
Hi friends, it’s Haley. Voice of In the Loop: Theme Park Scoops.
The current experiences chairman was the natural choice to take over as Bob Iger’s successor, with a background heavily rooted in theme parks. Walt Disney World cast members have also praised D’Amaro’s leadership, particularly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
When Disney announced that a Tropical Americas land would replace Dinoland U.S.A. nearly three years ago, that, for me, was the first real sign D’Amaro would be ushering in this new era of rapid growth and transformation.
From christening three new Disney Cruise Line ships now sailing out of Florida, to unveiling Villains Land, now under construction at Magic Kingdom, D’Amaro has been front and center recently with exciting announcements.
It’s safe to expect D’Amaro to lead the big announcements at D23 this August when he’s officially in his new role.
More closures coming 🐐
The same week DinoLand U.S.A. permanently closed, Disney announced another round of closures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
While the Affection Section shutdown is temporary, the experience itself is set to change — meaning time is running out to get up close with the animals before Conservation Station gets a Bluey makeover.
A fresh Frozen look ⚙️
Audio-Animatronics hold a meaningful place in Walt Disney Company’s history. During my conversation with a Walt Disney Imagineer, I could hear the genuine excitement in his voice about the new Audio-Animatronics coming to Frozen Ever After.
The attraction closed last month and will reopen with upgraded Audio-Animatronics soon.
A next-level experience 🌌
From its “Stellervator” entrance to the galactic tableside view, Space 220 at EPCOT is a Disney dining experience unlike any other.
The News 6 Insider team was treated to a special menu tasting with a Disney World chef.
My advice for Space 220, particularly for adults and a small group, is to check for walk-up availability with the host. I’ve been immediately seated at the bar when I’ve tried my luck and had a stellar dining experience.
Universal Orlando
Your guide to good times 📿
Universal Orlando Resort is bringing back its vibrant Mardi Gras celebration starting this weekend.
Featuring a lively New Orleans-inspired parade, over 40 international food offerings, and live concerts by top artists on select nights, there is lots to enjoy, not just a parade of floats.
SeaWorld Orlando
Turtle TLC 🐢
SeaWorld Orlando’s rescue team just welcomed 16 big green sea turtles from Titusville who got a little too chilly for comfort.
These cold-stressed turtles are getting some serious TLC to warm up before they bounce back into the ocean waves.
Construction update 🏗️
During the kick-off weekend of SeaWorld Orlando’s Seven Seas Food Festival, I snapped a pic of the construction progress of SEAQuest: Legends of the Deep.
The family indoor dark ride is set to open sometime this year. As you can see from the photo above, the show building has quite a scale.
As always, keep me in the loop through my email or reach out to me on X or Instagram.
See you next week.
