Central Florida sprinter wins 100m gold at U.S. Track and Field Championships

Olympic medalist Melissa Jefferson-Wooden ran a blistering 10.65-second performance in the women’s 100 meters Friday night at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships, cementing her position as the world’s fastest woman in 2025.

The Central Florida resident’s victory at Eugene’s historic Hayward Field marked a personal best and elevated her to fifth-fastest woman of all time in the 100-meter event. The performance extended her undefeated streak in the distance this year.

Jefferson-Wooden, who entered the championships as the world leader after clocking 10.73 seconds at Philadelphia’s Grand Slam Track meet on June 1, continued to demonstrate remarkable consistency at the highest level of competition.

Jefferson-Wooden’s championship-winning time of 10.65 seconds stands as the world-leading mark for 2025, highlighting her dominance in the sprint events.

The gold and bronze Olympic medalist’s achievement adds another prestigious accolade to her growing list of accomplishments. Her performance at the USA Track & Field Championships positions her as a strong contender for the upcoming World Championships.

She is set to return to Hayward Field on August 3 for the 200-meter event at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships. Following these championships, she will represent Team USA at the World Championships in Tokyo, scheduled for September 13-21.
