ORLANDO, Fla. – When over 160 football players since 2016 sign scholarships to play college football, you know something right is happening. At Jones High School, another dozen players committed during National Signing Day on Wednesday.
So, what’s the secret?
“Honestly, I think it’s every day coming in to work,” Ryan Duval said, who signed to Seton Hill. “Not having an ego; just trying to be great every day.”
David Lee, a Daytona Beach Christian University commit, recalled a constant message from his coaches: “No shortcuts.”
Players committed Wednesday morning to colleges like Bethune-Cookman, Seton Hill, Florida Memorial University and St. Thomas University.
“I’m a legacy child,” Stephen Williams said, a Bethune-Cookman commit. “Jones has got a big legacy in Orlando. It feels good to be a part of that legacy.”
The players signing today builds upon the early signees from December, which saw players leave early for schools like the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators.
Coach Elijah Williams told News 6 it’s awesome to see his players sign each period. He tells them to do their business on and off the field and leave the door open for the chance to play in college.
“It’s always good to have a ‘Plan B,’” Duval said. “Not everyone makes it all the way. You’ve got to always have something to fall back on.”
