Jacksonville Jaguars hold joint practice with Panthers

Teams will square off Friday in preseason action

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s the middle of training camp. In August. In Florida. Football players tire of hitting the same guys over and over. They salivate at the thought of laying into an opponent.

So, when teams hold joint practices, as the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers did on Wednesday, all bets are off when it comes to increased physicality and intensity. Needless to say, the competitive juices were flowing for the nearly two-hour workout on the Jags’ practice fields. But aside from some minor pushing and shoving, tempers were held in check for two teams looking to build off playoff appearances this past season.

In the following video, Jacksonville head coach Liam Coen and quarterback Trevor Lawrence sound off on the merits of the joint practice. Also, I spent a few minutes with Panthers wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr., a former star at Seminole High School in Sanford, who’s trying to become a fixture in Carolina’s offensive plans.
