OCOEE, Fla. – Imagine game day traffic, every day.
That’s what neighbors near Fuller’s Cross Road fear could be coming with a $1 billion sports and entertainment complex planned for Ocoee.
The massive project would bring 17 fields, 1,100 hotel rooms and thousands of visitors, but for people who live nearby, the big question is whether the roads are ready.
More traffic could soon fill roads near the intersection off Fuller’s Cross Road now that the new $1 billion sports and entertainment complex is set to roll in. The development would feature 17 fields, 1,100 hotel rooms and more, raising concerns for drivers who already use the area daily.
“There’s a police training facility that’s going in over there also,” said Angelo Emilio, who lives nearby. “With the additional sports complex there, we’re very concerned. The traffic is going to be a nightmare.”
Drivers like Emilio say they haven’t seen roadwork underway or construction on the complex itself. “Usually the roadwork starts as soon as possible,” Emilio said. “We need it.”
“There has been nothing done to the roadways around here,” said Rick Tischler, a Winter Garden resident. “Hopefully that gets done first before the complex is even fully completed.”
The 159-acre project is led by Montierre Development, which previously said it planned to break ground last year and complete the complex by 2027. “It gives opportunity to allow families to not have to choose between taking a vacation or a sporting event,” said Jaime Douglass, CEO of Montierre Development during our previous story in 2025.
In a statement Friday, the company said its focus remains on finalizing the backbone of development, with substantial progress continuing behind the scenes. The company also said it is working closely with city and state officials to ensure safe, efficient and well-coordinated traffic and mobility planning.
However, court records show four lawsuits were filed against Montierre Development in 2025 by lenders, investors and contractors, alleging more than $11 million is owed in connection to the project. The developers say they do not comment on legal matters.
