WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Legoland Florida Resort kicked off the holiday season with a cosmic twist, lighting up its 30-foot LEGO Christmas Tree and revealing the launch date for its new space-themed rollercoaster.
Emily Calandrelli, acclaimed science communicator, beloved TV host, aerospace engineer, and the 100th woman in space, led the countdown to illuminate the massive brick-built tree, blending real-world space passion with LEGO’s imaginative magic.
Above the celebration, a choreographed drone show featured rockets, LEGO bricks, and the new Space Creature character, setting the stage for Galacticoaster’s interstellar adventure, launching officially on Feb. 27.
Galacticoaster lets guests design their own spacecraft using interactive touchscreens and RFID wristbands that recognize 625 possible design combinations. When riders board, their personalized spacecraft becomes part of an immersive interstellar journey featuring synchronized lighting, projections, and a LEGO solar system.
The new area also includes a DUPLO space-themed play zone and a dedicated LEGO Galaxy retail shop.
Adding to the excitement, Merlin Entertainments is launching the nationwide Junior Galaxy Explorers initiative. This program invites children ages 6 to 12 to design and build their own LEGO spacecraft for a chance to be among the first to ride Galacticoaster. It aims to inspire creativity, curiosity, and confidence in young innovators through hands-on exploration inspired by the universe.
Holidays at Legoland continue through December with festive shows, exclusive builds, character meet-and-greets, and a kid-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration capped by fireworks.
