Authorities searched Sunday for two boaters who were missing and believed drowned in an accident on a central Florida lake near the Legoland theme park. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said at a news conference that the two men had jumped into Lake Eloise to save a third person from their group, a woman, who was struggling in the water. The third person, 38-year-old Velcky Velazques, was rescued by sheriff's deputies who had been summoned when a 10-year-old girl on the boat dialed 911 on a cellphone.

It took place in the station of the Fire Dragon roller coaster, an amusement park spokesperson told dpa. Last week, a woman died in another roller coaster accident in an amusement park in Klotten in southwest Germany.

Legoland Florida plans expansion, new rides
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Legoland Florida is planning an expansion next year including new rides, according to plans filed with the city nearest the attraction. Details have not been revealed, but other news outlets report Legoland will add about 4.5 acres to its resort near Winter Haven. We’re excited for our next “big build” at the LEGOLAND Florida Resort, but you’ll have to wait until next year for more expansion news” said a Legoland spokeswoman. The expansion plans in 2021 come on the 10th anniversary of the theme park’s opening on the former site of Cypress Gardens. Legoland Florida has expanded repeatedly since opening in October 2011.
Legoland hiring over 100 at Florida theme park, water park, hotels

The news comes months after the theme park industry was hit hard by the pandemic, causing each park to lay off a number of employees. The company said that because the holidays are approaching, extra staffing is needed at their theme park, water park and hotels. Legoland officials said that both part-time and full-time positions will be up for grabs and starting pay for non-salaried workers is $9 an hour. Legoland Florida announces big savings, events for 2021 to mark 10th birthday
WINTER HAVEN, Fla – Legoland Florida Resort celebrated its birthday Thursday and unwrapped some big deals for its upcoming 2021 season. To celebrate its 10th birthday next year, the park is throwing back its pricing on annual passes. Officials said the new Play & Party Pass will cost Florida residents $99. The pass allows guests to enjoy 12 months of admission with select blockout dates, free parking, admission to select annual events and discounts on other Legoland Florida tickets. For non-Florida residents, the next best annual pass is the “awesomer pass,” which retails for $179.

Florida coronavirus deaths reach 2,190 as major theme parks eye reopening
After push back, the DOH gave medical examiners permission to begin releasing death numbers again, showing discrepancies between the state dashboard and what local medical examiners offices have reported. All theme parks, large and small, need to receive approval from municipal and county government before seeking approval to reopen from the state. A Universal Orlando executive presented its reopening plan to the Orange County reopening task force Thursday and received approval. WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Legoland Florida executives presented their reopening plan to Winter Haven city commissioners Wednesday and were given the go-ahead to reopen on June 1 if Gov. Under DeSantis’ executive order theme parks need to get local government approval before submitting plans to reopen to the state amid the coronavirus pandemic. On Wednesday, Legoland General Manager Rex Jackson detailed his plan at the Winter Haven City Commission meeting. The commission approved the plan to reopen June 1. If the park receives the final approval from the state to open it would be at 50% capacity.
Water main break closes Legoland Florida for remainder of day
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A water main break closed Legoland Florida Monday afternoon, according to park officials. Officials said management closed the park because of the water main break, which occurred outside of the Legoland Florida Resort. According to a statement from Legoland, "The necessary repairs are being made, and we anticipate reopening tomorrow, Tuesday, July 7, at 10 a.m."Guests were given a complimentary pass to revisit the park. No other details were immediately available.
Legoland Hotel to open Friday in Winter Haven
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Starting Friday, a brand new attraction will be drawing visitors to Winter Haven, Florida. The Legoland Hotel will open to the general public just feet away from the entrance of the Legoland theme park. A select few VIP and their families were given a sneak peek of the hotel and its amenities this week. Before walking in the front door, guests were greeted by a large, green, smoke-breathing dragon made out of hundreds of Legos. Brittany Williams with Legoland Florida Resorts says the average guest is booking rooms for two nights, with the first two nights already being completely sold out.
Man Tased, arrested at Legoland, Polk deputies say
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – An unruly guest was arrested at Legoland after deputies shocked him with a stun gun when he refused to leave the park. Richard Campana, 36, of Port Charlotte, faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct after the incident earlier this week. Deputies said he appeared drunk and refused to leave the park when employees instructed him to, the Lakeland Ledger reports. When deputies arrived and asked the man his name, they say Campbell squawked "Pterodactyl." It took deputies 30 minutes to get Campbell into custody.
LEGOLAND set to debut new water attraction
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – LEGOLAND Florida is set to debut its new water attraction World of Chima Wednesday, but Local 6 got a sneak peek. LEGOLAND Florida General Manager Adrian Jones says Chima is one of only a few rides in the world where kids can actually step inside a world they've built themselves. On the attraction riders enter Chima to search for Chi, navigating the twisting path that lies along the way. Waterfalls, water cannons and misters line the route which drench guests from head to toe. There's even a place where riders and observers can duel back and forth using on-board water blasters.

Legoland Water Park sets opening day
HAINES CITY, FL – Legoland Florida announced Friday when its water park will open. The new Legoland Water Park will open on May 26th. The water park will feature Lego versions of water park favorites, including a rafts built from Lego blocks and a gentle wave pool with Lego walls. The water park is an area inside of the park, requiring admission to Legoland plus an extra fee. Legoland has launched a Premium Pass that includes unlimited admission to the main park, the water park, along with free parking and other discounts.
