LEGO contest sparks creativity in young builders with Legoland Galacticoaster ride opportunity

Space-theme coaster set for Feb. 27 opening

MIAMI – It’s time to blast off those LEGO imaginations.

The Junior Galaxy Explorers Search kicked off Saturday at the Miami Children’s Museum, marking the first stop in Florida for the nationwide competition.

Kids ages 6 to 12 brought their creativity to life by designing and presenting their own LEGO spacecraft.

Participants either arrived with custom-built LEGO spacecraft or built them on-site, showcasing their designs to a Galactic Council of judges. The panel included the LEGOLAND Florida Master Model Builder and a rocket engineer from Blue Origin’s Club for the Future.

The competition invites young innovators to explore creativity through hands-on building inspired by the universe. Winners will be announced by Feb. 5.

Prizes include a first-ever ride on Legoland Florida Resort’s new Galacticoaster, a space-themed family indoor coaster opening on Feb. 27. Winners also receive a two-night stay at a Legoland hotel, annual passes for their family, and a custom LEGO commemorative build.

The Junior Galaxy Explorers program offers a unique opportunity for children to engage with STEM concepts and space exploration in a fun, interactive way.

“This is an exciting day for Merlin Entertainment as we kick off our national tour right here at Miami Children’s Museum. We’ll be going to several different museums throughout Florida and California looking for a junior galaxy explorer,” said Julie Estrada, Legoland Florida spokesperson.

The next stop on the Junior Galaxy Explorer tour is at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale on Jan. 10, followed by the Kennedy Space Center on Jan. 17. Digital submissions are also accepted.
