ALEXANDER ROSSI

US driver Logan Sargeant set to drive in F1 in 2023

Sargeant needed to finish at least sixth in the season standings in Formula Two to qualify for an F1 Super License. Williams earlier said the Florida-born driver would get the seat for 2023 if he met the requirements and helped him do so by giving him practice time in F1 sessions. Sargeant finished fourth in the F2 standings after a fifth-place result in the last race of the season Sunday. At Williams, Sargeant takes over a race seat occupied this year by Canada's Nicholas Latifi. The most recent U.S. driver in F1 was Alexander Rossi, who started five races for the now-defunct Manor Marussia team.

(AP Photo/Seth Wenig) (Seth Wenig)DETROIT — (AP) — The milk has barely been washed out of Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson’s firesuit and the IndyCar season has gone wild. Belle Isle was a doubleheader the last eight years and Ericsson won on Saturday last season, with O'Ward winning on Sunday. It is just a single Sunday race this weekend, the final time the event will be held on Belle Isle. A speeding penalty on pit road decimated Dixon's shot at a second Indy 500 victory after he'd dominated nearly the entire build-up to the race.

IndyCar Texas Auto Racing Rinus Veekay passes Alexander Rossi on the fourth turn during the first practice round of the IndyCar Series auto race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Texas has hosted IndyCar since the track opened in 1997 but its existing contract, done by Eddie Gossage, who retired as general manager last year, expires after the race Sunday. But the bigger problem is a track reconfiguration and accommodations done for NASCAR made Texas a poor fit for IndyCar. Jimmie Johnson, the winningest driver at Texas with seven wins in NASCAR, qualified 18th in his IndyCar oval debut. Haas was the worst team in F1 last year but Magnussen qualified seventh in Bahrain for the season-opening race.

Jimmie Johnson, the all-time winningest driver at Texas with seven wins in NASCAR, qualified 18th in his IndyCar oval debut. For Rosenqvist, it was his second career pole since joining IndyCar in 2019. It makes a high line that is far too slick and dangerous for the IndyCar drivers. Very few drivers dared to even coast into the second lane during Saturday morning practice.
