NFL offseason a mental, physical reboot process for players
Game plans and practices are replaced in the NFL offseason by all the activities — exciting and mundane — players couldn't do the last several months. But for players on the 18 teams that failed to make the postseason, the offseason begins when the clock hits zero in the regular-season finale. “I go see a therapist weekly, definitely making sure I even go see them in person now,” Jefferson said. When that goal no longer exists, players recognize the need to flip a mental switch before gradually restarting the process. “That’s the most important thing, making sure I’m being engaged with my children and making sure I’m being present,” he said.
wftv.comCoach Brees: Purdue brings back QB to assist at bowl game
— (AP) — When Ryan Walters was a high school quarterback, he wanted to replicate Drew Brees' trailblazing career path. “I am extremely excited to work with our team over the next few weeks as we prepare for the Citrus Bowl,” Brees said in a statement. Four assistant coaches have already followed former Boilermakers coach Jeff Brohm to Louisville. Brohm's younger brother, Brian, will serve as interim coach for the bowl game and co-defensive coordinator Mark Hagen will call the defensive signals against LSU (9-4). “When I first heard about Drew coming back to help coach our guys for the bowl game, I was hoping the rumors were true,” Walters said.
wftv.comFantasy Football Six-Pack: Tyler Huntley could have juice in must-win Week 14
56.8 - Last year, in the five games in which Tyler Huntley played over 80 percent of his team's offensive snaps, he averaged 56.8 rushing yards and 208.4 passing yards per week. So if you grabbed Huntley off the wire, it's not unreasonable to hope for a useful fantasy week. 42 - This is Alvin Kamara's highest single-game rushing total over the Saints last five games, and it happened back in Week 11. Personally, my favorite thing about fantasy in Week 14 is that Kamara isn't involved in it because New Orleans is on bye. 17.26 - In games started by a quarterback who isn't Zach Wilson, we are getting 17.26 fantasy points per week from Garrett Wilson.
wftv.com49ers top Saints 13-0, first to blank New Orleans since 2001
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — (AP) — San Francisco forced two fumbles from Alvin Kamara to become the first team in nearly 21 years to hold New Orleans scoreless, and the 49ers beat the Saints 13-0 Sunday for their fourth straight win. New Orleans had the longest active scoring streak and fourth longest in NFL history at 332 games since being blanked by San Francisco in the 2001 finale. San Francisco then stopped the Saints after a first-and-goal from the 4 when Nick Bosa sacked Dalton on fourth down. San Francisco center Jake Brendel was then called for holding on the next play, followed by a roughing the passer on Malcolm Roach and an illegal shift on Kyle Juszczyk. ... OL Spence Burford (ankle) also left in the second half and didn't return.
wftv.comDrake, Houston lead Ravens past Saints for 3rd straight win
NEW ORLEANS — (AP) — Kenyan Drake rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns, Justin Houston had an interception to go with his third straight multiple-sack game, and the Baltimore Ravens beat the New Orleans Saints 27-13 on Monday night. The Saints entered the game with a chance to pull into a three-way tie atop the anemic NFC South with Atlanta and Tampa Bay. In the second quarter, Jackson orchestrated a 12-play, 81-yard drive during which he ran for gains of 7, 16 and 12 yards. Drake capped it off by running into the end zone virtually untouched from a yard out for a 14-0 lead. Saints: Center Erik McCoy had to be helped off the field with a calf injury late in the second quarter.
wftv.comNFL trade deadline: Kareem Hunt, Brandin Cooks and the other biggest names who didn't get dealt
Teams were busy during the NFL trade deadline Tuesday with some major names on the move. Here are some of the biggest names who weren't traded before Tuesday's deadline. At 3-5, Cleveland is still within striking distance of the AFC North as the team heads into their Week 9 bye. Houston Texans WR Brandin CooksThere were apparently "talks" for Cooks before the deadline but nothing materialized. Denver Broncos WR Jerry JeudyOK, so I guess the Broncos aren't in full-on sell mode just yet.
wftv.comFantasy Football Flashback, Week 8: QBs take rare backseat to RBs on most reliable list
Welcome to the latest edition of the Fantasy Football Flashback, where we celebrate the accomplishments of the week's most reliable players. The 25-year-old has been consistent this season, but he also entered Week 8 with just one 100-yard game and two touchdowns. Don’t worry about his lack of involvement in the passing game, as he has previously proven that he can be an elite fantasy performer on his rushing acumen alone. Tagovailoa looked great while bringing Miami back from an early deficit, and he finished the contest with 382 yards passing and three scores. The fleet-footed quarterback also threw two interceptions, but his fantasy managers will be happy to see season-high totals in passing yards and scores.

Subscribe to the Yahoo Fantasy Football ForecastApple Podcasts | Spotify | Stitcher | Google PodcastsMatt Harmon is joined by Scott Pianowski to provide a recap of Sunday’s Week 8 NFL action with an eye towards fantasy football. After a few down weeks for some of fantasy’s brightest stars, this week included some huge games from newly acquired Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry against a division rival, Tony Pollard in place of Ezekiel Elliott, Alvin Kamara (who is now QB dependent), D’Onta Foreman and A.J. Many of them ended up in the end zone three times on Sunday. Matt and Scott talk through the games, debating where both Tyreek Hill and Jonathan Taylor would go if fantasy football drafts happened today, and thank D.J. Moore and Terry McLaurin for returning to fantasy relevance.
wftv.comFantasy Football Six Pack: Spooky stats that'll make you shudder for Week 8
In keeping with spooky season, this week we offer a terrifying six pack of the scariest stats available. He's coming off a week in which he played a season-low 16 snaps and handled just four touches. This man found the end zone nine times last year and a league-leading 21 times the season before. 12.29 - This is Matthew Stafford's average weekly fantasy point total in Yahoo default settings, an atrocious number for any quarterback. Stafford is facing a weekend matchup with the Niners, a team that sacked him seven times and pick-six'd him in Week 4.

Greg Joseph kicked a 47-yard field goal with 24 seconds left and the Minnesota Vikings hung on for a 28-25 win over New Orleans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when the Saints’ Wil Lutz’s 61-yard tying attempt hit the left upright and then the crossbar as time expired.
Fantasy Football Booms and Busts: Big-name bricks sully Week 3
Monty managers feel the pain, and Herbert managers likely didn't benefit this week, though good things could be coming down the line. But his 107 total yards and two touchdowns were surely tilting to D'Andre Swift managers. The Jets held him to 38 total yards and no touchdowns on 15 touches. Ja'Marr Chase posted a touchdown at the Jets, but he had just 27 total yards and lost a fumble. Kirk Cousins threw touchdown passes to Adam Thielen (a one-yarder, of course) and to a charitably-uncovered K.J.
wftv.comNFL injury report: Justin Herbert to be game-time decision after missed practice, while Chris Godwin is ruled out
Herbert, who is said to be day-to-day with a "rib cartilage fracture," was ruled questionable after being limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, then not participating on Friday. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially ruled out the Pro Bowl wide receiver after a week in which he posted no official participation in practice. Wide receiver Julio Jones is also questionable after returning to practice on Friday in a limited fashion. Dobbins, who missed all of last season with a torn ACL, is listed as questionable with a knee injury. Speaking of persistent Ravens injuries, left tackle Ronnie Stanley is listed as doubtful to make his season debut with a knee injury.
wftv.comFantasy Football 2022: Week 2 DFS primer and lineup picks
Fournette is another season-long health concern who has fresh legs now and is undervalued in DFS with not even a top-12 RB salary this week. Coming off such concerning usage in Week 1 and with the Saints down multiple left tackles while facing a tough Buccaneers run defense, Kamara's expectations should be tempered. He was first in route run involvement rate, which resulted in a career-high five catches. Facing a pass-funnel Colts defense that's extremely stingy against the run but beatable through the air, Kirk is undervalued in DFS this week. Johnson has the stone minimum DFS salary despite quietly being among the tight end leaders in target share and route involvement in Week 1.

wftv.comFantasy Football Slippery Seven: Pianow's early fade list at July ADP
Alvin Kamara, RB, Saints (Yahoo ADP: 19.8)Of all the players on this list, this is the one guy I'm least likely to change my mind on. Derrick Henry, RB, Titans (Yahoo ADP: 4.3)Another star player whom I'd love to be wrong on — Henry is a blast to watch and treats every carry like it's his last. At the juncture when fantasy managers are drafting Henry, I'll probably be looking at Justin Jefferson or Ja'Marr Chase. Cordarrelle Patterson, RB, Falcons (Yahoo ADP: 97.2)To be fair, his early ADP isn’t prohibitive, as the market doesn’t expect Patterson to come anywhere close to his 2021 breakout. Kamara, one of the top running backs in the NFL, is charged with felony battery resulting in substantial bodily harm. “It was known that (Kamara) would be participating in the Pro Bowl,” the department statement said. Kamara had four catches for 23 yards for the NFC in the Pro Bowl, which the AFC won, 41-35. Two of the Seahawks' biggest mistakes came on New Orleans’ deciding drive when Seattle was flagged for roughing the passer and jumping offside on a long field-goal attempt. Both penalties gave New Orleans first downs, and Johnson’s field goal coming out of the 2-minute warning put the Saints ahead. He also made enough plays — thanks to Seattle penalties — to get the Saints in range for the winning field goal.

Payton on Sunday thought to himself: “If there was any halftime entertainment, that’s a tough spot to be in.”
news.yahoo.comWhat's ahead? NFL owners to meet about upcoming season
They'll begin finding out this week when the 32 team owners hold virtual meetings Tuesday and Wednesday. Two items top the agenda: increasing the regular season to 17 games and decreasing preseason games to three per team. Both are nearly certain to be approved after a pandemic-stressed season that severely cut into the league's revenue stream. The media partners who just spent about $10 billion annually for NFL rights fees will get more content that counts, and fewer exhibition games. Ad“There will be automatic changes to the offseason and in-season workout schedules as a result,” said George Atallah, the NFL Players Association spokesman.
Saints' Brees sees playoff clash with Brady's Bucs as fate
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (9) reacts after a touchdown by Alvin Kamara in the second half of an NFL wild-card playoff football game against the Chicago Bears in New Orleans, Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021. (AP Photo/Butch Dill)NEW ORLEANS – Drew Brees periodically discusses his long, extraordinary NFL journey in terms of fate and destiny. “Other than that, there’s not a lot of bad about” the Saints, Brady said. I think the quarterback-receiver relationship is really important.”Still, no defense has had more success against Brady this season than the Saints. The Saints gained 2,265 yards rushing during the regular season and added another 123 yards in their playoff opener against Chicago's formidable front.
Brees, Saints pull away late for 21-9 playoff win over Bears
Brees completed 28 of 39 passes for 265 yards, connecting with Michael Thomas and Latavius Murray for touchdowns, and the New Orleans Saints defeated the Chicago Bears 21-9 in an NFC wild-card game Sunday. Brees' first touchdown pass in the opening quarter was 11-yards over the middle to Thomas, back from a three-game absence to help heal a nagging ankle injury. The 2019 Offensive Player of the Year missed nine games this season and had not caught a touchdown pass since December 2019. That marked the second time this season a Bears player was thrown out for action taken against Gardner-Johnson after the whistle. The Bears have reached the playoffs twice since Pace took over in 2015, both times under Nagy, who was hired in 2018.
The Latest: Browns open 28-0 lead over Steelers
The Browns have raced to a 28-0 lead over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns’ 28 points are the most by any team in the first quarter of a playoff game since the 1970 merger. So, this will be the first NFL playoff game ever pitting two quadragenarian quarterbacks. Drew Brees is trying to join Brett Favre and Tom Brady as quarterbacks to win a playoff game after turning 40. That was his third career playoff game with 150 or more rushing yards, one game shy of Hall of Famer Terrell Davis’ record.
Brady and Bucs, plus Bills and Rams win NFL wild-card games
The first tripleheader of NFL wild-card games saw Tom Brady extend his postseason record for victories to 31 with a 31-23 win for Tampa Bay at Washington on Saturday. After a quarter-century, the Bills got one of those triumphs that Brady collects — and they even figured out how to stop a Hail Mary. The previous playoff win was over Miami on Dec. 30, 1995. And it came in the Bills’ first home playoff game in 24 years, with a limited number of fans in attendance (6,700) for the first time this season. The Ravens averaged an NFL-best 191.9 yards rushing per game and their 3,071 yards rushing were third highest in NFL history.

The Saints (12-4) will host the seventh-seeded Chicago Bears in the wild-card round next Sunday at 4:40 p.m. EST. That leaves questions about his future as the Panthers starting QB, especially with the team having a top 10 draft pick in 2021. UP NEXTSaints: The four-time defending NFC South champions host the Bears next Sunday in the playoffs. Kamara on COVID-19 list, could miss Saints' playoff opener
(AP Photo/Butch Dill)NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Saints have placed running back Alvin Kamara, who leads the club in both yards rushing and receiving, on their COVID-19 reserve list. The move means Kamara is unavailable for Sunday's regular-season finale at Carolina and also could miss the Saints' first playoff game if New Orleans is unable to move up to the NFC's top seed. Kamara has 932 yards and 16 TDs rushing to go with 756 yards and five TDs receiving this season. His touchdowns rushing and 21 total touchdowns from scrimmage are Saints single-season records. Murray has 656 yards and four TDs rushing this season and in 2019 had 100-yard rushing performances in both games Kamara missed with leg injuries.

And the Chiefs' lead has also narrowed a bit atop the latest AP Pro32 poll. Curious calls by Sean Payton, Jon Gruden highlight Week 16
Let’s start with:PAYTON’S PLANOn Christmas night, Saints running back Alvin Kamara tied a 91-year-old NFL record by rushing for six touchdowns in a 52-33 wipeout of the Minnesota Vikings. “I was thinking about our best play there,” Payton explained afterward. Payton wasn’t talking about Nevers’ record six TD runs. “A lot of these players — I’d say most of these players — have no idea how good Gale Sayers was,” said Payton. “It was a great moment.”Brees said Payton mentioned Sayers’ mark before the Saints’ last touchdown drive.
Kamara's 6 TDs tie NFL record; Saints beat Vikings 52-33
New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (41) breaks free past Minnesota Vikings cornerback Cameron Dantzler (27), outside linebacker Eric Wilson (50) and defensive end D.J. He finished with a career-high 155 yards rushing to help New Orleans beat the Minnesota Vikings 52-33 on Friday and clinch a fourth straight NFC South title. He has since set Saints records for rushing TDs in a season with 16 and total TDs with 21 (he has five receiving). It would be 8-yard gain, 7-yard gain.”The Saints (11-4) never punted, and set a record of yards gained in a game by a Vikings opponent with 583. New Orleans' 264 yards rushing were the most by a Vikings opponent in Zimmer's seven seasons.
A bonus for NFL fans in Week 16: 4 straight days of games
They do have a sack in an NFL-record 71 straight games and have sacked Philip Rivers 15 times during seven games while he played for the Chargers. Rivers has had two or more TD passes in five straight games. He had career bests of 10 catches for 163 yards last week, and Ridley's seven 100-yard games lead the NFL. The 19 straight seasons without losing both games to a divisional opponent is an NFL record. The Jaguars have allowed at least 24 points in each of those 13 games, an NFL record.
Mahomes' theatrics highlight Chiefs' 32-29 win over Saints
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15) passes in the first half of an NFL football game against the New Orleans Saints in New Orleans, Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020. The victory kept the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs (13-1) in pole position to capture the AFC's lone playoff bye as a No. Mahomes' second TD toss looked more like a basketball assist, a chest-pass to tight end Travis Kelce cutting behind blockers for a 1-yard score. With two timeouts remaining, the Saints kicked deep, but could not prevent Mahomes and Co. from running out the clock. Saints: Receiver Tre'Quan Smith and safety Marcus Williams each left with ankle injuries in the second half.

He had a 74-yard TD run against Pittsburgh and a 74-yard run against Baltimore.
Saints overcome Brees injury, beat 49ers 27-13
“When I came out in the second half and started throwing the ball (to warm up), it became really apparent that I wasn't going to be effective,” Brees said. Brees said he didn't expect the injury to be “a long-term thing," but added, ”it's just a matter of how long it's going to be. “We couldn’t get anything going in the second half and didn’t get much out of our running game," coach Kyle Shannahan said. Tight end Josh Hill also left the game with a concussion in the second half. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore left with an oblique injury, but could be seen standing on the sideline without his helmet in the second half, urging on teammates and even dancing at times.
Brees throws 4 TD passes, Saints rout Brady, Buccaneers 38-3
Brees threw for 222 yards and four touchdowns, regaining the NFL career TD pass lead and lifting the New Orleans Saints into first place with a 38-3 rout of Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night. The Saints intercepted Brady twice in a 34-23 season-opening win, with Janoris Jenkins returning one for a TD. “We didn't play well in any phase of the game,” Brady said. But with Tampa Bay’s offense sputtering and one of the league’s stingiest defenses unable to slow down Brees, New Orleans pressed on. Buccaneers: WR Chris Godwin (three catches, 41 yards) returned after missing one game with a broken right index finger.
Will Lutz makes field goal in OT, Saints beat Bears 26-23
The Bears’ Cairo Santos made a 51-yard field goal at the end of regulation to force the extra period. He came through with his fourth field goal on a windy day, sending the Bears (5-3) to their second straight loss. “My gut, we’re on the field and I feel like we can kick a field goal at that distance without risking any ball-security issues,” Payton said. Marshon Lattimore then intercepted Nick Foles, leading to a tiebreaking field goal by Lutz. After the Saints went three-and-out, Chicago tied it with 13 seconds left on Santos’ field goal into the wind.

Alec Ingold recovered for Las Vegas and Carr threw a 1-yard TD to Waller on fourth down to give the Raiders their first lead of the game at 24-17.

But the Saints' defense was able to apply more pressure as the game wore on, sacking Winston four times in the fourth quarter. The Saints parlayed that first down into a 75-yard touchdown drive that ended with a 9-yard pass to Cook.
