The Institute for Supply Management reported Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021 that its monthly survey of service industries rose to a reading of 61.9, following August’s reading of 61.7. The Institute for Supply Management reported Wednesday that its monthly survey of service industries jumped to a reading of 66.7. All 18 services industry categories reported growth in October, led again by retail trade. Any reading above 50 indicates growth in service industries.

Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, core inflation rose 0.2% in September and 4% compared with a year ago. Average hourly wages rose 4.6% in September from a year earlier, a healthy increase, but not enough to keep up with inflation.

A law from the 1600s will keep retail shops closed on Sundays at the nation's newest shopping mall

So-called blue laws are still in place in Bergen County, New Jersey, where Triple Five Group's American Dream is situated. Until the 1990s, blue laws prohibiting the sale of clothes, home goods, appliances and other goods were much more common nationwide. The name "blue laws," according to historians, comes from the fact that the Puritans tended to write their laws on blue paper. New Jersey's blue laws, prohibiting work on Sundays, have been on the books since the 1600s. Hudson County was the last one, outside of Bergen County, to repeal its blue laws, in the 1980s.

California is the most popular state among U.K.-based jobseekers chasing the American Dream, according to new research. The West Coast cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco were the second and third most popular cities for job searches, with New York City topping the list of most popular U.S. work destinations among Brits. Washington, D.C., and Boston rounded out the top five cities British people wanted to work in. British workers' share of inbound job searches has fallen by 19% since November 2016, placing the U.K. third behind India and Canada in international candidates looking for U.S. opportunities. The data also showed that people in the U.K. who wanted to work in the U.S. were mostly looking for positions in customer service, summer internships and research assistant roles.
