Police say the mother of Ashli Babbitt, the woman fatally shot by police inside the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot, has been arrested in Washington after refusing to get out of the street during a demonstration on the two year anniversary.
Internal probe clears officer in Capitol riot shooting
Police say an officer who shot and killed a woman during the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol as she began to climb through the broken part of a door leading into an area known as the Speakerโs Lobby acted lawfully and in line with police policy.

Then, in one of the videos, the officers who'd been guarding the doors into the Speaker's Lobby are seen moving away from the entry. One of them raises his weapon toward the Lobby doors and then quickly lowers it. The inside of the Speaker's Lobby appears to be mostly empty at that point, and chairs have been stacked against the doors on the inside. โA sworn USCP employee discharged their service weapon, striking an adult female,โ whom Capitol Police identified as Babbitt. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died Thursday night from injuries suffered during the riot.

Woman fatally shot at Capitol echoed Trump on social media
Babbitt was fatally shot by an employee of the Capitol Police inside the U.S. Capitol building in Washington on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, while the rioters were moving toward the House chamber. Capitol Police on Thursday identified Babbitt, 35, as the woman who was fatally shot by an unidentified officer. โMask Free Autonomous Zone Better Known as America," read a large sign on the front door of a pool service business she ran with her husband in Spring Valley, near San Diego. No one answered the door Thursday at the business or the couple's home, a modest duplex in San Diego. Babbittโs ex-husband, Timothy McEntee, called her a โwonderful woman with a big heart and a strong mindโ in an email to The San Diego Union-Tribune.
