— (AP) — Record rainfall caused widespread flash flooding across the St. Louis area early Tuesday, killing one person, displacing many others and prompting rescues from vehicles and homes. One person died when a car in St. Louis was found covered in more than 8 feet (2.4 meters) of water. Several puppies drowned when a building became flooded at Stray Paws Adoptables, a stray dog rescue operation in St. Peters, a St. Louis suburb. In the St. Louis County town of Brentwood, residents were forced to evacuate when Deer Creek overflowed. While the St. Louis region got the worst of it, other places were soaked, too.

Damage across the St. Louis region was widespread after a massive downpour dropped more than 11 inches (28 centimeters) of rain in parts of St. Charles County and up to 10 inches (25 centimeters) elsewhere in the St. Louis metropolitan area. At one point, sections of interstates 64, 55 and 44 also were closed in the St. Louis area. In the St. Louis County town of Brentwood, residents were forced to evacuate when Deer Creek overflowed. While the St. Louis region got the worst of it, other places were soaked, too.

Tony-winning choreographer, actress Ann Reinking dies at 71
NEW YORK – Ann Reinking, the Tony Award-winning choreographer, actress and Bob Fosse collaborator who helped spread a cool, muscular hybrid of jazz and burlesque movement to Broadway and beyond, has died. Reinking died Saturday while visiting family in Seattle, said her manager, Lee Gross. Reinking co-starred as Roxie Hart along with Bebe Neuwirth’s Velma, and created the choreography “in the style of Bob Fosse,” the show’s original director and choreographer who died in 1987. Reinking replicated its choreography in productions throughout the world — England, Australia, Austria, Sweden, the Netherlands and elsewhere. In 1998, she co-directed “Fosse,” a salute to the man who had the largest influence, both professionally and personally, on her life.
