ESPN starts its Joe Buck-Troy Aikman 'Monday Night Football' era with a massive ratings win
ESPN paid a high price to land a high-profile "Monday Night Football" booth of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Between ESPN, ABC, ESPN2, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes, 19,845,000 viewers tuned in for the game. ESPN's 'Monday Night Football' opener had help beyond Joe Buck and Troy AikmanAll of that is very encouraging for ESPN, which gave Aikman and Buck a reported $165 million combined to jump over from Fox Sports. Also aiding that number was ESPN2's "Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli" garnering 1,502,000 viewers, an 86 percent increase from last year's Week 1 debut, per ESPN. ESPN will try to build on that momentum next week with a "Monday Night Football" double bill, featuring Buck and Aikman on a Minnesota Vikings- Philadelphia Eagles game at 8:30 p.m.wftv.com
Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett changes tune on fateful MNF decision: 'We should have gone for it'
#Broncos Hackett said they should have gone for it on fourth down #Denver7 pic.twitter.com/wRqwUB8dxW — Troy Renck (@TroyRenck) September 13, 2022"Looking back at it, we definitely should have gone for it," Hackett told reporters on Tuesday. Hackett, a rookie head coach managing an NFL game for the first time, did, in fact, not go for it. Instead Hackett put the game of the foot of his kicker. He reiterated that line of thinking on Tuesday as the reasoning for his decision to attempt a field goal. We missed a field goal.'wftv.com
What the numbers say about Nathaniel Hackett's decision to attempt a 64-yard field goal vs. letting Russ cook
“If the field goal had been from 58 or 59 yards, our model has it as more of a coin flip decision,” Schatz told Yahoo Sports. “Need to make the kick.”There are a wide range of opinions about Hackett’s decision to attempt the 64-yard field goal, but there can be little debate about his dismal clock management preceding that play. If it succeeded, then there was time to set up a chip shot field goal for McManus. One promising second-half drive ended with Melvin Gordon fumbling at the goal line on 4th-and-1. A third produced only a field goal even though the Broncos at one point had first-and-goal from the Seattle 3-yard line.wftv.com
Broncos' Nathaniel Hackett says he was fine with his call to try 64-yard field goal
Hackett made two questionable calls in the final minute that cost the Denver Broncos a chance to beat the Seattle Seahawks. The Broncos ended up settling for a 64-yard field goal, a very low percentage attempt, when they had other options. Hackett's explanation was that he was totally fine with a field goal from that far away. Aikman never mentioned the possibility of a field goal, and very few watching at home considered it. That's a long field goal to hit.wftv.com
Geno Smith starts hot, Seahawks D finishes to beat Broncos in Russell Wilson's return
The Seattle Seahawks were mocked for trading Russell Wilson and giving Smith a chance to start. Broncos have trouble near the goal lineThe Broncos just couldn't score near the goal line. Seattle went three-and-out, with two short passes getting stuffed and then Smith being sacked by Bradley Chubb on third down. It was a clock management fiasco that led to the decision to go for the field goal. McManus did his best but that's a field goal not many kickers will make.wftv.com
