Daniels, No. 15 LSU outlast No. 6 Alabama, 32-31 in OT
— (AP) — Jayden Daniels ran for 25-yard touchdown in overtime and then found tight end Mason Taylor for a do-or-die 2-point conversion, and 15th-ranked LSU defeated No. 6 Alabama 32-31 on Saturday night to give first-year Tigers coach Brian Kelly his first victory over Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban. Alabama (7-2, 4-2) began overtime with the ball and took a 31-24 lead on Roydell Williams' second touchdown of the game. But Daniels needed just one play in overtime to score and force a decision by Kelly to try to tie it with a kick or let Daniels try to win it. I didn’t want to keep going in overtime,” Kelly said as jubilant fans stormed onto the field.wftv.com
No. 10 LSU goes for 2 and beats No. 6 Alabama 32-31 in OT

LSU then scored on its first play of overtime on a 25-yard TD run by Daniels. After a timeout by LSU to find its best two-point play, Daniels rolled to his right and found Taylor just inside the pylon. “It just felt like the right time,” LSU coach Brian Kelly said of going for two.wftv.com

LSU holds No. 7 Ole Miss without a TD over the final 3 quarters in 45-20 win
The Tiger defense stopped the Ole Miss offense during the second half in a 45-20 win over the No. It’s the first loss of the season for Ole Miss and, as LSU fans would like to point out, it wasn’t an upset either. Ole Miss jumped out to an early 17-3 lead and it briefly looked like it would be a cakewalk. LSU QB Jayden Daniels had five total TDs against Ole Miss a week after he had six touchdowns against Florida. The explosive Ole Miss offense couldn’t start any sort of comeback.wftv.com
Florida State blocks PAT, holds off Kelly's LSU, 24-23
NEW ORLEANS — (AP) — Shyheim Brown blocked LSU's extra-point attempt with no time left to give Florida State a 24-23 victory Sunday night, spoiling Brian Kelly's debut as Tigers coach. Despite a slew of mistakes including a muffed punt with 2:15 left, LSU came within the extra point of tying it in the wild finish. With LSU fans celebrating an apparent two-touchdown comeback in the final 4:07 — and Florida State fans bracing themselves for what could have gone down as an infamous implosion — Brown deflected Damian Ramos' kick, touching off a Florida State celebration during which players wildly rushed the field. Jordan Travis passed for 260 yards and two touchdowns for Florida State. TAKEAWAYFlorida State: Travis' numbers could have been better if not for some key drops.wftv.com
College football's first-year head coaches with the most to prove in 2022
The college football season is right around the corner, meaning we'll soon get our first glimpses at some prominent head coaches at new schools. Kelly came close but never won a national title at Notre Dame, and expectations are always high when it comes to a program like LSU. Kelly faced tough schedules as an independent at Notre Dame, but the juggernaut of the SEC West is a different kind of beast. Kelly got Notre Dame to the precipice of a national title on multiple occasions but the Irish are still in pursuit of their first title since 1988. Sankey says SEC has 'no panic' in conference expansion race
ATLANTA — (AP) — The Southeastern Conference is a leading player in the dramatic changes to the national football landscape. “That’s the current state of college football," Kelly said Monday at SEC media days, a high-pressure game to find a desired conference. The SEC will become a 16-team conference in 2025 with the additions of Texas and Oklahoma. “There’s no sense of urgency in our league, no panic and reaction to others’ decisions,” Sankey said. “I’ll let you make the comparisons between us and our colleagues as it relates to national championship success in football,” Sankey said.wftv.com
Brian Kelly is settling in at LSU without an accent
ATLANTA — Brian Kelly has clearly learned a thing or two about staying in your cultural lane. And he’s establishing a structure that could make LSU dangerous even in the toughest division in the toughest conference in college football. “Fit is about the ability to run a program at the highest level,” Kelly said. Ever since Nick Saban arrived on campus, LSU has suffered through a strange run of feast or famine, championship or catastrophe. “Now, that doesn't mean you just take a kid from Louisiana because he's from Louisiana.wftv.com

After escaping Florida State with a 41-38 overtime victory on the road to open the season, the Irish showed little improvement during a 32-29 comeback victory at home over Toledo. It has some wondering if Notre Dame is ripe to be picked off by Purdue, a longtime foe it hasn't faced since 2014. Alabama to meet Notre Dame in relocated CFP semifinal game
4 Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinal originally scheduled to serve as the 107th Rose Bowl. It's still unclear whether the game in the Dallas Cowboys' stadium will be called the Rose Bowl, but the decision ended a streak of 78 straight years in Pasadena for a bowl game first played in 1902. The festive week of genteel celebrations around the Rose Bowl game already had been mostly canceled, interrupting a beloved annual holiday tradition for hundreds of thousands of Los Angeles-area residents and tens of thousands of visiting fans. Alabama's first bowl game was the 1926 Rose Bowl, and the Tide played in six early editions of the game. They haven't been back in the official Rose Bowl game since 1946, although they beat Texas on Jan. 7, 2010, in the BCS National Championship Game at the Rose Bowl stadium.

The College Football Playoff semifinal game scheduled for January 1 is being moved from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses announced Saturday night. Kelly, Swinney express concern about no families at playoffs
“Why would we play if you can’t have families at the game?" "If you can’t have families at bowl games, why would you go to a game where your families can’t be part of it? “Why can’t it be the Rose Bowl in Las Vegas or can it be the Rose Bowl in another town?” Kelly said. "They can’t be around their families for Christmas, and you’re going to tell me we’re going to have a playoff and maybe one site can have families and the other can’t? I am so sick and tired of this playoff committee talking about having sites where you can’t have parents at and their families.
Book leads No. 2 Irish past Syracuse 45-21; Clemson next up
It was Book’s 30th victory as a starter, the most ever for a Notre Dame quarterback. “It’s a dream come true to be able to attend Notre Dame and have a good career,” Book said. Book finished with 348 total yards, becoming only the second Irish player to move past 10,000 yards (10,008) in total offense. Notre Dame: The Irish have an extra week to rest up for Clemson after the conference adjusted the schedules earlier this week, canceling their last game.

Now Notre Dames lone nonconference game will be a previously scheduled visit from Western Michigan on Sept. 19. Notre Dame, a member in all other league sports, already had a scheduling agreement to annually play five or six games with ACC teams as an independent. NCAA finalizing plan for extended college football preseason
After the pandemic wiped out spring practice for most major college football teams, an NCAA plan to extend the preseason by two weeks could help coaches and players make up for the lost time. Schools have started this week bringing their football players back to campus for voluntary workouts mostly weight training and conditioning in team facilities. Lyons said teams will be required to complete at least the four weeks of standard preseason before playing a game. Todd Berry, executive director for the American Football Coaches Association, said he would expect some coaches to segment their teams, holding multiple practices per day. If facing coverings are needed for players, Stewart said neck gaiters stretchy scarves made of lightweight, breathable material could be the way teams go.
