Many positive, negative surprises mark NFL season's 1st half
“I guess I would say it’s a little crazier than normal,” former NFL quarterback and current NBC “Football Night in America" analyst Chris Simms said. It’s not unusual for each NFL postseason to have a few new faces. Seven of the 14 playoff teams each of the last two seasons hadn’t reached the postseason the previous year. Every postseason since 1990 has featured at least four new playoff teams. What makes this season stand out is that several playoff contenders are relevant for the first time in several years.

The New York Jets took their first lead of the season — 10-9 over the Tennessee Titans — on Matt Ammendola’s 27-yard field goal with 19 seconds left in the third quarter. The Jets had been the only team in the NFL to not hold a lead at any point in any game this season. After rushing for five touchdowns in 38 career games with the New York Jets, Darnold matched the number in less than 3½ games with the Panthers. The Cowboys’ leader in catches coming in was on the sideline without his helmet before the team’s second offensive possession started.

The Jets also are sending a 2022 seventh-round draft pick to the Steelers for Pittsburgh's 2022 fifth-rounder. Bell signed a few days later with Kansas City and ran for 7 yards on six carries against his former team Sunday.
AP sources: Jets LB C.J. Mosley opting out of NFL season
NEW YORK New York Jets linebacker C.J. The people spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Saturday because the team hadn't announced Mosley's decision. Mosley joins a growing list of players who are choosing to not play this season if there is a season amid concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. The Jets also have veteran Avery Williamson returning from a torn ACL that sidelined him for all of last season. But Mosley's decision to opt out will likely mean Williamson will remain on the roster and likely take over as the signal-calling quarterback on defense.
