Brian Laundrie's remains, discovered at a Florida nature reserve on October 21, will be cremated and given to his parents.

A North Port Police spokesperson denied rumors that Laundrie's parents planted evidence, saying authorities "walked into the park with them."

The FBI confirmed Thursday that the remains are those of Gabby Petito’s 23-year-old fiancé and the only person of interest in her death.

Family attorney Steven Bertolino said Laundrie's parents were at the Florida Reserve Wednesday when the remains and some of his possesions were found.

Investigators found a backpack, notebook and other belongings of Brian Laundrie, who was reported missing shortly before the remains of his fiancee, Gabby Petito, were found in Wyoming on Sept. 19.

FBI agents and police swarmed the home of a young man wanted for questioning in the disappearance of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito.

The search for Gabby Petito’s fiancé at a Florida wildlife reserve continued Sunday after his family told investigators they believe he went into the area earlier this week, according to the North Port Police Department.

Laundrie is a person of interest in the disappearance of his girlfriend, Gabrielle “Gabby” Petito. Police said Laundrie was alone when he drove the van back to his parents’ home in North Port, Florida, on Sept. 1. It added that the investigation is now a “multiple missing person” case. Petito’s family had been pleading for the Laundrie family to tell them where their son last saw her. His parents later moved to North Port, about 35 miles (55 kilometers) south of Sarasota.

The Carlton Reserve has about 80 miles of hiking trails, most of which are currently flooded, according to a warning posted on its website Saturday.
