A viewer’s tip about trash scattered around Evergreen Cemetery led News 6 to begin looking into who maintains the property, how often it is serviced and what happened to the debris. Lake County now says its staff removed 25 bags of illegally dumped trash Tuesday from the portion of the cemetery owned by the county.

After News 6 highlighted trash dumped near graves at Ponceannah Cemetery, volunteers and crews have cleared more than a ton of debris and added signs and barriers to protect the historic burial site.

Mother and daughter Tanya and Emma Boothe were driving along Britt Road in Mount Dora December 6, when they spotted an open casket. Records show Lopez said four of the skulls were taken from the graves and two were obtained from other practitioners. Lopez and Tolentino are facing four counts of disturbing the contents of a grave and four counts of abuse of a dead human body.
