Bears GM Poles expects Fields to be starting QB next season

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — (AP) — Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles said he expects Justin Fields to be the team's starting quarterback next season and just about slammed the door on drafting one with the No. 1 overall pick. 11 overall pick in 2021, emerged as one of the NFL's most exciting players in his second season. They set a franchise record for losses in a season and extended one by dropping their 10th game in a row. 1 overall pick for the first time since 1947.

Fantasy Football: Every NFL team's passing-game situation heading into Week 10

At least the passing game is offering three playable pass catchers in DeAndre Hopkins (a monster ADP win), Zach Ertz and Rondale Moore. Buffalo BillsFor all the sunshine thrown at these guys, the passing game has only given us two reliable options — Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs. Dalton Schultz looks a little sharper with every passing week; I'm eager to see what he can do after the Week 9 bye. Until we see a show-me game, everyone in this passing game belongs on a fantasy bench, if not the waiver wire. Jacksonville JaguarsTrevor Lawrence showed some positive signs last week (he's also avoided sacks all year), and Christian Kirk will always be the first read.

Fantasy Football Booms and Busts: Justin Fields gives Chicago hope in Week 10

Miami escaped with a 35-32 victory at Chicago on Sunday, but Justin Fields was the star of the day. Fields ran for 178 yards — a new regular-season record for a quarterback — and accounted for four total touchdowns, putting Chicago's offense on his back. Tight end Cole Kmet secured two short touchdowns — he's back in fantasy play after a shaky start to the year. But fantasy is a game about numbers, and Fields rang them up like a pinball machine. Kaepernick ran for 181 yards and threw for 263 more — with four total touchdowns — as the 49ers knocked out the Packers in the 2012 playoffs.

NFL trade deadline 2022 winners and losers: Bears finally appear ready to build around Justin Fields

The best way to break down something like the 2022 NFL trade deadline is immediately after the trades happen. It's best to have strong, infallible takes in the moment, so let's go over some surefire winners and losers from the NFL trade deadline now that all of the trades have been finalized. This move signals that reinforcements are coming for Fields, he just needs to make it to the end of the season. Sending him to the Jaguars, with a boatload of stipulations on future picks, is ultimately a good move for this team. Smith will get a contract extension barring something unforeseen happening and projects nicely into what the Ravens like to do on defense.

NFL trade deadline: Kareem Hunt, Brandin Cooks and the other biggest names who didn't get dealt

Teams were busy during the NFL trade deadline Tuesday with some major names on the move. Here are some of the biggest names who weren't traded before Tuesday's deadline. At 3-5, Cleveland is still within striking distance of the AFC North as the team heads into their Week 9 bye. Houston Texans WR Brandin CooksThere were apparently "talks" for Cooks before the deadline but nothing materialized. Denver Broncos WR Jerry JeudyOK, so I guess the Broncos aren't in full-on sell mode just yet.

Steelers rookie QB Kenny Pickett takes over for ineffective Mitchell Trubisky, throws interception on first drive

After a six-point first half produced four punts, a turnover and two field goals against the New York Jets, the Pittsburgh Steelers benched Mitchell Trubisky in favor of their rookie quarterback. Facing first-and-10 near midfield, Pickett looked deep downfield to Chase Claypool on a play-action pass. Head coach Mike Tomlin named Trubisky the team's starter after a preseason battle at quarterback, but Pittsburgh's offense was stagnant in a 1-2 start. The Steelers averaged 18 points in their first three games as Trubisky totaled two touchdowns and an interception while averaging 189.7 passing yards per game. Column: Smith-Schuster fires up foes through jigs and digs

(AP Photo/Keith Srakocic)Say this about Ju-Ju Smith-Schuster: he sure knows how to fire up foes through jigs and digs alike. He said he thought “they’re still the same Browns teams I play every year” and while they had talent, “the Browns is the Browns." The Browns snapped their 17-game losing streak at Heinz Field with their first road playoff win since 1969. “That turns you up a little bit,” Buffalo safety Jordan Power said after the Bills’ 26-15 win over Pittsburgh in Week 14. “For the betterment of myself and my teammates, I’m going to stop dancing on the logos,” Smith-Schuster declared after that loss to Cincinnati.

Browns end long playoff drought, survive late Steelers rally

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield celebrates after the Browns defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in an NFL football game, Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, in Cleveland. The Browns, winless just three seasons ago and so bad for so long, are in the playoffs. The Browns and their passionate fan base endured 197 losses, 14 double-digit-loss seasons and seven coaches since the last playoff appearance. For the moment he got to Cleveland in 2018, Landry's goal was to get the Browns back to the postseason. Steelers: Will be back at full strength for their first playoff appearance since the 2017 season.

No preseason, no problem: NFL rookies shine in strange year

Young and Jefferson made the Pro Bowl, and surely more rookies would have joined them as alternates at the league’s now-canceled all-star game. “It’s crazy unusual for a rookie, I think, to have the type of leadership that Chase has, genuine leadership,” Washington quarterback Alex Smith said. “I think a lot of young guys, especially high picks, I think you feel pressure to do it some way or somehow. “Talk about a rookie coming in, starting every game and just being focused,” Browns Pro Bowl guard Joel Bitonio said of Wills. “We’re growing and we’re starting to get a hang of the game,” said Dolphins right tackle Robert Hunt, a second-round pick and one of six Miami rookies starting on offense.

The Steelers led 28-24 when the Ravens (5-2) faced a fourth-and-3 at the Pittsburgh 8 with 2 minutes left. Steelers knock out Lock, hold off Driskel, Broncos 26-21

(AP Photo/Keith Srakocic)PITTSBURGH – A game seemingly in hand suddenly on the cusp of slipping away, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin didn't overthink things. Needing a stop to turn back the surprisingly resilient Denver Broncos, the Steelers dialed up one final blitz in an afternoon filled with them. So the Broncos (0-2) hung around despite losing starting quarterback Drew Lock (right shoulder) in the first quarter. The Steelers recovered and went downfield for a touchdown while Lock was in the blue medical tent getting evaluated. Still, he wasn't exactly thrilled on a day the Steelers never trailed but struggled to put the Broncos away.

Elbow room: Roethlisberger confident in return from surgery

PITTSBURGH Ben Roethlisberger is pretty sure there isn't a technical term for what doctors did to his shredded right elbow last fall. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback is pretty sure about one thing though: no one who has ever played his position has ever recovered from it well enough to continue throwing a football for a living. Roethlisberger admitted he'd been dealing what he described as minor elbow discomfort for a while heading into Week 2 against Seattle. The two-time Super Bowl winner underwent surgery shortly thereafter that anchored the torn tendons to his elbow. I still want to win Lombardys," Roethlisberger said, referencing the trophy that goes to the Super Bowl champions.
