Justin Lower birdies 18th to take 1-shot lead at Fortinet
NAPA, Calif. — (AP) — Justin Lower weathered the wind and birdied the 18th hole Saturday to take a one-shot lead into the final round of the season-opening Fortinet Championship. That opened the door for Lower, who put his second shot on the par-5 18th just off the green and then made the short birdie putt. But after more defections to the LIV Tour, Lower moved back into the top 125 and is taking advantage of it in the first tournament of the new season. Conditions aren't expected to be much better in the final round, which has already been altered by an ominous forecast with rain and wind. The leaders will tee off several hours earlier than scheduled with the final round featuring threesomes off split tees.wftv.com
Defending champ Max Homa, Danny Willett share lead in Napa
NAPA, Calif. — (AP) — Max Homa moved into position to defend his title at the Fortinet Championship, shooting a 5-under 67 on Friday to share the early 36-hole lead with Danny Willett at the PGA Tour's season opener. The English player kept his PGA Tour card for this season because of players defecting to the Saudi-funded LIV Golf series. To go bogey-free is really good,” said Willett, who has only six top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour since winning his lone major. His best finish in 28 previous PGA Tour events dating to 2013 was a tie for eighth. “It’s always hard to follow up a very low round with another good round or even lower,” Lower said.wftv.com

In some respects, this British Open will feel as though golf has returned to normal. During a practice round on Monday, Phil Mickelson appeared concerned he was getting too close to spectators. And then there’s the course at Royal St. George’s, disrespected by some and unloved by many more for being unfair.wftv.com
Five months later, measure of normalcy at Masters in April
(AP Photo/Charlie Riedel, File)AUGUSTA, Ga. – The record score at Augusta National wasn't all that set Dustin Johnson apart from other Masters champions. No other Masters champion was allowed to keep his green jacket for only five months before it was time to try to win it again. Augusta National is blazing with pink and red and purple azaleas, accented by the white blooms of dogwood. Ad“I think it will be back to feeling like a normal Masters,” Johnson said. Augusta National had no choice but to keep the spectators away in November because of the pandemic, just like the other majors last year.
