DAVID MOYES

Liverpool relying on abnormal season to catch Man City

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is at least gaining hope from a season with so many sudden variables. WEST HAM SETBACKWest Ham twice came back against Leeds through Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals but Jack Harrison's third goal sealed a 3-2 win for the visitors in east London. Tottenham has now played four games fewer than West Ham and has only four points to eradicate. Playing three games in a week has taken its toll on West Ham, including a 2-0 win over Norwich on Wednesday. “I think it was a huge factor today,” West Ham manager David Moyes said.

(AP Photo/Ian Walton) (Ian Walton)LONDON — (AP) — Goalkeeper Alisson Becker helped West Ham score three goals, and Liverpool's 25-game unbeaten run ended. A 3-2 victory Sunday allowed West Ham to dislodge Liverpool from third place in the Premier League, extending an impressive start to the season for David Moyes' side. It's even further back — into February — since the 2020 champions lost in the Premier League. West Ham is now only three points behind leader Chelsea after finishing sixth last season for a highest finish since being fifth in 1999.

(AP Photo/Rui Vieira) (Rui Vieira)BIRMINGHAM, England — (AP) — West Ham has an unusual situation on its hands. West Ham is level on 20 points with third-place Manchester City in the Premier League but it won't be relaxing any time soon. But you know what happens in football, it can quickly turn around and bite you," West Ham manager David Moyes said. West Ham has experienced a revival under Moyes, finishing sixth last season, but hasn't secured a major trophy since winning the 1980 FA Cup.

Man U wins after penalty call backfires; Chelsea beats Spurs

Noble's first touch of the ball was taking the penalty, striking it low toward the corner of the net. Even more galling for Moyes than the penalty miss, the scorer of the winner in the 89th minute was Jesse Lingard. No United manager since Ferguson has lifted the Premier League trophy. “We’ve got to keep our feet grounded, dig out the points like we did today," United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said. “It was perhaps a bit more defensive, but I wanted to give the sign I was not happy with the energy,” Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said.

(Michael Regan/Pool via AP)Five years after achieving the unthinkable, Leicester is back atop the Premier League and making another improbable run at the title. For big-spending Chelsea and its under-pressure manager, Frank Lampard, any ambitions of winning the league already appear to be dashed. Leicester beat Chelsea 2-0 on Tuesday to jump above the two Manchester clubs, United and City, and reach the midway stage of its league campaign in first place. IN-FORM ANTONIOAs it stands, West Ham is heading into the second half of its Premier League campaign with just one senior striker.

(Laurence Griffiths/Pool via AP)NEWCASTLE West Ham twice squandered a lead against Newcastle and had to settle for a 2-2 draw that moved the team four points clear of the Premier League's relegation zone on Sunday. With five games remaining, West Ham is inching closer to survival but could yet live to regret switching off to allow Jonjo Shelvey to score Newcastle's second equalizer in the 67th minute just 92 seconds after Tomas Soucek reclaimed the lead for the visitors. West Ham manager David Moyes threw his hands out in disgust after Shelvey dribbled his way through a gap in the defense and exchanged a one-two with Dwight Gayle before slotting home a low finish. West Ham is 16th in the 20-team league, four points above two teams in the relegation zone 18th-place Aston Villa and 19th-place Bournemouth.

Talking points ahead of the Premier League restart

(AP Photo/Jon Super, File)Some talking points ahead of the resumption of the Premier League following a three-month suspension caused by the coronavirus pandemic:RECORD-BREAKING REDSThe fact that Liverpool will win its first English league title in 30 years is not really in doubt. The 25-point lead is the biggest in English history, while 22 straight home wins over the past two seasons is also a Premier League record. Given the financial impact of the coronavirus outbreak on soccer, staying in the Premier League has rarely been so vital economically.
