Purdy leads 49ers to 10th straight win, 38-13 over Cardinals
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — (AP) — Brock Purdy threw three touchdown passes for his sixth straight game with multiple TDs and the San Francisco 49ers clinched the No. The Cardinals (4-13) ended the season going in the opposite direction with seven straight losses to tie a franchise record for losses in a season. The game started well for Arizona when fourth-string quarterback David Blough connected on a 77-yard TD pass to A.J. Green off a trick play on the second play from scrimmage. The two connected again late in the third quarter, giving Kittle seven TD catches from Purdy in the last four games.
wftv.com49ers RB Elijah Mitchell to miss 6-8 weeks with another MCL sprain
The San Francisco 49ers will be without running back Elijah Mitchell for at least six weeks. Mitchell sustained an MCL sprain in his left knee in their 13-0 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Monday. The news comes just weeks after Mitchell returned from a sprained MCL in his right knee. Mitchell went down in their season-opener, and was out until Week 10. He is dealing with “knee irritation,” Shanahan said Monday, and the 49ers are planning to manage throughout the week.
wftv.comChristian McCaffrey might be the RB — and final Super Bowl puzzle piece — the 49ers have looked for
And up until they traded for Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers had accomplished all of their rushing success with relatively unknown talent. San Francisco also signed Jerick McKinnon to a four-year, $30 million deal in 2018 and Tevin Coleman in 2019 on a two-year, $10 million deal. McCaffrey's propensity for pass-catching gives him something the Shanahan offense has severely lacked as well. The only 49ers running back with more than 50 receptions in a season during Shanahan's tenure was Hyde in 2017. The knocks against this move are threefold: McCaffrey's injury history, the contract that comes with him and what San Francisco gave up to Carolina.
wftv.com49ers suffer serious injury losses in latest win
Jimmy Garoppolo was sharp, San Francisco's running game was efficient and the defense delivered another dominating performance. The opener of a two-game East Coast swing for the 49ers looked good on the scoreboard with a 37-15 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday but proved costly on the injury report. The Niners (3-2) lost starting cornerback Emmanuel Moseley to a season-ending knee injury, safety Jimmie Ward to a broken hand, star edge rusher Nick Bosa to an injured groin and kicker Robbie Gould to a bruised knee.

wftv.comFantasy Football Mailbag: On Breece Hall, tight end draft strategy and much more
Fantasy football managers have a lot of them … especially heading into a season with so many old faces in new places. Here are my thoughts on some of fantasy’s most vexing conundrums:When is the finish line for drafting a tight end? Goedert's target total went up after Zach Ertz was traded, as he averaged nearly six looks per game from Weeks 7 through 17. Evans' volume could potentially spike … but Adams' and Diggs' looks are practically guaranteed and exist at all levels of the field. wftv.comNo. 16 La.-Lafayette tops UTSA 31-24 in First Responder Bowl
(AP Photo/Matt Strasen)DALLAS – Louisiana-Lafayette’s seemingly comfortable 17-point lead over UTSA disappeared during the second half of the First Responder Bowl. 16 Louisiana-Lafayette drove 72 yards in 12 plays to beat UTSA 31-24 on Saturday at SMU’s Ford Stadium. “We made it entertaining again,” Louisiana-Lafayette coach Billy Napier said. UTSA outgained Louisiana-Lafayette 431 yards to 411, had two turnovers to the Ragin’ Cajuns’ one and missed a field goal attempt. UTSA: The Roadrunners, playing in the program’s second bowl, fell short of compiling the first four-game winning streak in the program’s nine-year history.
Coastal Carolina knocks off No. 21 La.-Lafayette 30-27
– Massimo Biscardi made a 40-yard field goal with 4 seconds left to give Coastal Carolina a 30-27 victory over No. “We’ve never been in this position before,” second-year Coastal Carolina coach Jamey Chadwell said. Coastal Carolina took a 13-7 lead with 1:03 left in the half when McCall capped an 84-yard march with a 13-yard scoring pass to Marable. The Cajuns drove 77 yards in 54 seconds, with Lewis scoring on a quarterback draw with 5 seconds left. The second half started like the first, with both teams scoring on their first possession.
Week 2 Preview: Trevor Lawrence launches Heisman campaign

(AP Photo/Richard Shiro, File)This college football season is already so odd that it’s unclear whether this is Week 1 or Week 2. 1 Clemson and Trevor Lawrence begin their season at Wake Forest, a solid opportunity for the star quarterback and preseason Heisman front-runner to launch a campaign. The Sooners' new starter is the first non-transfer to begin the season as QB1 since before Trevor Knight in 2014. One coach who could really use a win to start this season, though, is Les Miles of Kansas.
