Chloe goes for pared-down 1970s, riffing on disco in Paris

PARIS — (AP) — Chloe -- the house that invented ready-to-wear -- got almost ready-to-dance at Thursday’s installment of Paris Fashion Week as designer Gabriela Hearst developed disco fever, cracking open strobe lighting, colored 1970s disc motifs and retro hair. The scene ushered in a collection that while not exactly disco, was a very Hearst-for-Chloe version of it: pared- down and minimalist with occasional whooshes of dance floor. It appeared as cutouts on the side of a white sporty sheath dress, eyelets, or as blue, orange, white and black inserts on gowns worn by models with long gelled hair. But at times, despite the concept — or perhaps because of it -- the pared -own styles seemed to lack energy. That being said, there were plenty of standout looks: Supermodel Gigi Hadid stole the show in a boho silver chainmail gown.

Ecology, Ukraine and nuns inspire eclectic Paris fashion

Paris Fashion Chloe F/W 22-23 Models wear creations as part of the Chloe Ready To Wear Fall/Winter 2022-2023 fashion collection, unveiled during the Fashion Week in Paris, Thursday, March 3, 2022. (Photo by Vianney Le Caer/Invision/AP) (Vianney Le Caer)PARIS — (AP) — Designer Gabriela Hearst brandished her green mindedness by setting her Chloe show at Paris Fashion Week on Thursday inside a famous Parisian greenhouse. CHLOE'S TEXTURE-RICH ECOLOGYThe Uruguay-born Chloe designer has made ecology the front and center of her tenure of Chloe thus far. Quirks like a bubble top tube in python print looked fantastically like the model was being eaten by a boa constrictor. Guests sat immersed in a set of wall-to-wall school lockers as looks fused preppy styles of school boarders — with a take on a Catholic nun’s habit.

Takada death upends Paris fashion; Givenchy unveils designer

PARIS – Paris Fashion Week was upended Sunday by the news of fashion designer Kenzo Takada's death at age 81. Like Milan before it, Paris is undertaking an unusual fashion season for Spring-Summer 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. But the brand may have hoped such a big new beginning would have come under better days and not under the virus-hit Paris Fashion Week. For a 34-year-old, Williams has quite a resume -- after having designed for Kanye West and Lady Gaga and founding the influential urban fashion house 1017 ALYX 9SM. “It is with immense sadness that KENZO has learned of the passing of our founder,” the fashion house said in a statement.

Gabriela Hearst, Kerby Jean-Raymond win top fashion awards

NEW YORK – The Council of Fashion Designers of America gave its top fashion awards on Monday to Gabriela Hearst for womenswear and Kerby Jean-Raymond for menswear. The two designers led a group of winners that the CFDA said was the most diverse in the 39-year history of the awards. The winners also included Telfar Clemens, who won the accessories award, and Christopher John Rogers, who won for American emerging designer. The award for international women's designer went to Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino. The international men's designer award went to Kim Jones for Dior.
