Tony Award-winner, Chicago stage champion Frank Galati dies
NEW YORK — (AP) — Frank Galati, an actor, director, teacher and adapter who was a pivotal figure in Chicago's theater community and a two-time Tony Award winner, died Monday, according to Steppenwolf Theatre. He was also nominated for directing the 1998 celebrated musical “Ragtime.”His screenwriting credits include “The Accidental Tourist,” for which he was an Oscar nominee. He also was credited for writing the teleplay to Arthur Miller’s play “The American Clock” in 1993. In a joint statement, Steppenwolf’s co-artistic directors Glenn Davis and Audrey Francis paid tribute to Galati: “Frank had a profound impact on Steppenwolf, and all of us, over the years. He is survived by his husband, Peter Amster, also a theater director.

Performers set for TV special replacing canceled Rose Parade
Sheryl Crow leads a long list of performers and celebrity guests who will appear in a Jan. 1 television special replacing the 132nd Rose Parade, which was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Performers will also include Mickey Guyton, Tori Kelly, Lady A, Rascal Flatts and husband-and-wife duo The War and Treaty. Celebrity guests will include Rita Moreno, Emeril Lagasse, Gary Sinise, Daddy Yankee, Shanola Hampton, Dascha Polanco, Vin Scully, Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez and Rose Bowl Hall of Fame inductee Matt Leinart. The special will also include marching bands, equestrians, floats from previous years and segments on the Rose Bowl football game that usually follows the parade. Cancellation of the 2021 Rose Parade was announced earlier this year.
Actor Gary Sinise visits Orlando to sponsor trip for WWII veterans
ORLANDO, Fla. - Actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise was in Orlando on Wednesday as his foundation sponsored a trip for veterans to visit the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. During a special sendoff at Orlando International Airport, 28 World War II veterans were recognized for their service before boarding an American Airlines flight, the official airline parter of the Gary Sinise Foundation. The journey is the 16th for the Soaring Valor Program, which has sponsored flights for 1,121 veterans"Oh, I'm very excited. Since 2017, the program has been used as an educational opportunity for 203 students who have accompanied Soaring Valor veterans. The group of veterans will visit the museum Thursday before returning to Orlando on Friday.
