Orange County leaders are advancing a proposal to build a homeless shelter in the Goldenrod area, a project supporters call a step toward long-term housing solutions, but one that’s drawing pushback from some neighbors.

The Orlando City Council unanimously approved a plan Monday to use funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to convert two Greyhound buses into overnight shelters.

The announcement to drop the shelter plans comes after the city conducted an assessment to determine if the facility was viable while exploring ways to work with the community and businesses to address homelessness.
