Analysis: Early NBA MVP race has crowded field of candidates
It still may not be enough to get the Denver Nuggets' big man a third straight NBA MVP. Or to the glaringly good numbers of a crowded field of early candidates, including Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum and Stephen Curry. He's also taken his unselfish play to another level, which may not do him any favors in the MVP race, but it sure does help the Nuggets. He’s a two-time MVP, so obviously people are advocating for Luka, he’s playing at a high level. The Nuggets don’t mind the throwback play of Jokic, who has the most triple-doubles of any center in NBA history.

Barton and Morris were both starters last season on a Nuggets team that was eliminated from the playoffs in the first round by eventual champion Golden State. Javale McGee had 19 points in 16 minutes off the bench, and Mikal Bridges also scored 16 points. Landry Shamet also scored 15 points, Jae Crowder and Chris Paul had 14 each, Cam Johnson 12 and Cameron Payne 11.
