Crawford hit an RBI single in the 10th inning and the Seattle Mariners stretched their winning streak to 13 games, beating the Texas Rangers 3-2 on Saturday. Carlos Santana homered as the Mariners (50-42) moved closer to the club-record 15-game winning streak set in their last playoff season in 2001. Seattle would match the longest winning streak in the majors this year with a victory in the series finale Sunday, its final game before the All-Star break. The Mariners' 21 one-run wins overall are tied with Toronto for the most in the majors.

Angels' Nevin banned 10 games for brawl; M's Winker gets 5
Nevin and Winker were two of 12 players or coaches suspended between the teams, according to an MLB release Monday night. Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford received five games, Angels pitchers Ryan Tepera and Andrew Wantz were suspended for three, and Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez, Angels reliever Raisel Iglesias and major league interpreter Manny Del Campo received two games. Nevin received a signifcant suspension for Angels opener Wantz intentionally throwing at Winker while warnings were in place for both teams. Nevin made the late decision to pitch Wantz instead of scheduled starter Jose Suarez. Winker reacted to getting hit by Wantz, angrily yelling and gesturing toward the Angels’ dugout.

Making his first start against an NL club, Gilbert (4-0) held the Marlins hitless until Jon Berti’s two-out single in the fifth. Crawford hit a two-out double and the Marlins intentionally walked Abraham Toro to face Rodríguez, who began the day with a .205 average. Berti scored from third on Jorge Soler’s infield single against Mariners reliever Andres Muñoz in the seventh.

MINNEAPOLIS — (AP) — The Seattle Mariners signed Gold Glove shortstop J.P. Crawford to a five-year extension on Friday ahead of the start of the regular season. Since the start of the 2020 season, Crawford leads all American League shortstops in innings played at the position with 1,876. He set career highs with a .273 batting average, nine homers, 54 RBIs and a .715 OPS last year. Crawford hit in the leadoff spot most of last season but is likely shifting further down in the batting order this season after Seattle acquired Adam Frazier in the offseason. “Seattle is a special place for me, and I can’t wait to be a part of the team that brings a championship here,” Crawford said.
