NFL free agency: Commanders reportedly sign Jacoby Brissett to one-year deal
The Washington Commanders entered the offseason with the familiar problem: They needed an above average quarterback. The team took one step to rectify that situation Wednesday, reportedly agreeing to a deal with Jacoby Brissett, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. It's unclear how the Commanders view Brissett heading into the 2023 NFL season. Howell threw a touchdown and an interception in the contest. Prior to signing Brissett, the Commanders indicated Howell will be their starting quarterback in 2023.

After talking about an absolutely massive game from Raiders RB Josh Jacobs, and debating whether or not it’s time to worry about Seahawks QB Geno Smith, the guys start talking about the new starting QBs around the league this week. Jets QB Mike White was a huge improvement over Zach Wilson, but Bears QB Trevor Siemian failed to live up to Justin Fields’ spectacular play. Kyler Murray returned to the Cardinals and almost led the team to an upset win over the Los Angeles Chargers in a game that came down to the final drive. Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, in his second season, finally had the game that we’ve been waiting for from him and led his team to a huge upset over the Baltimore Ravens.

Afterward, the Browns gave Brissett a game ball before the popular 29-year-old channeled Brady, his former teammate in New England. “I mean this in no disrespect," Brissett said when asked how he felt after the comeback win. So this was a special one for Brissett, who has been invaluable to the Browns during another turbulent season. The Browns forced OT on tight end David Njoku's remarkable, one-handed TD catch with 32 seconds left in regulation. “I threw it, and I thought I threw it too high and I was about to start crying,” Brissett said.

The Browns forced OT on tight end David Njoku's remarkable, one-handed TD catch with 32 seconds left in regulation. Brady threw two touchdown passes, but couldn't get anything going in the 10-minute OT as the Bucs (5-6) were unable to keep their momentum going following a bye. Led by All-Pro end Myles Garrett, who had two sacks, the Browns held Tampa Bay without a point on its final seven possessions. It was the 638th TD pass for Brady, and No. Browns: Watson plays his first game in 700 days against the Texans, who drafted him in 2017.

AFC West still belongs to Chiefs, a look back at Jacoby Brissett's Browns run, and what to be thankful for in NFL 2022
AFC West still belongs to the ChiefsThe AFC West was supposed to be a dogfight this season, but it has been anything but that. This is not the AFC West that people expected to see coming into the season. For now, and maybe until the end of days, the AFC West will remain under the control of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. In spots where they've needed to hunker down and protect their backup quarterback, Browns defenders haven't been able to do that whatsoever. The NFC East finally having good teams is amazing because the NFL is obsessed with putting those franchises on primetime.
wftv.comBrowns QB Watson practices for 1st time during suspension
More than two months after he began serving an 11-game NFL suspension for sexual misconduct allegations, Watson practiced Wednesday in what he and the Browns hope is the next step in him taking over as their franchise QB. As long as he continues to meet the provisions of his settlement, Watson will play his first regular-season game in 700 days on Dec. 4 when the Browns visit Houston. The Browns then signed Watson to a five-year, fully guaranteed $230 million contract, the richest in league history. There's going to be rust, and Brissett joked that he would assess Watson's game accordingly. "If it's bad, we'll tell him to stay in for the rest of the year.”Before his suspension, Watson reached financial settlements with 23 of 24 civil lawsuits filed against him.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — (AP) — Tua Tagovailoa maintained his scorching form since his return from a concussion, throwing three touchdown passes as the Miami Dolphins beat the Cleveland Browns 39-17 on Sunday for their fourth straight win. wftv.comBrowns are sinking in their attempt to keep season afloat before Deshaun Watson's return
The clock is ticking on the Cleveland Browns' season. They had one goal to complete this year while Deshaun Watson served his 11-game suspension: survive. In theory, this Browns team was designed to be able to play games without a starting quarterback. As things stand right now, they’ll be forking over a top-five pick to the Texans for their troubles this season. That stings, because this Browns team clearly has issues that Watson won’t be able to fix by himself.

wftv.comBrowns' Garrett rests from crash, status vs Falcons unclear
BEREA, Ohio — (AP) — For the first time, the Cleveland Browns didn't mind that Myles Garrett wasn't with them on the field. The All-Pro defensive end stayed home to rest and recover Wednesday from injuries suffered in a single-car crash as his status for the Browns' game on Sunday at Atlanta remains in doubt. "Very, very grateful that he’s OK,” said Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, who has spoken to Garrett. The Browns detailed some of Garrett's injuries in a statement on Tuesday night, but didn't specify their extent. While certainly a cautionary tale, Johnson said Garrett's crash isn't necessarily a reminder for players to be cautious.

Just knowing him, he probably wants to play, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he did, but that’s a tricky situation.

It wasn’t great at times, but Jacoby Brissett led the Cleveland Browns past the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night. With a two-point lead to start the fourth quarter, Brissett led the Browns on an 11-play, 80-yard drive before Chubb finally got past the Steelers and into the end zone. The Steelers' final desperation play failed miserably, and Denzel Ward recovered a fumble after several laterals in the end zone for a last second touchdown to give the Browns the 12-point win. But it was Steelers receiver George Pickens who stole the show in the half and kept Pittsburgh right in it. They had two straight three-and-outs on both sides of Cleveland’s fourth quarter touchdown before Trubisky finally got them in scoring position once again.
wftv.comBrowns trusting QB Brissett while Watson serves suspension
The Browns are going to need more than just knowledge from Brissett. “I got to go out there and prove that every day, right?” Brissett said of the belief in him. The Watson suspension hasn't changed Brissett's approach, and he said he's not concerned about outside chatter involving the Browns' interest in trading for Jimmy Garoppolo or living up to Super Bowl expectations. Sirianni was Brissett's offensive coordinator in Indianapolis, where he bonded with the QB, who made an impact on his entire family. “I just can’t say enough good things about Jacoby Brissett,” Sirianni said.
wftv.comWatson suspension delays payoff on Browns' big gamble for QB
The Browns knew there was a strong possibility they'd be without Watson for an extended period. “We still have 17 games to play,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said Thursday, shortly after Watson's punishment became public. Not nearly as flashy or dynamic as Watson, he's more of a game manager. Stefanski plans to treat next week's final preseason game against Chicago as a dress rehearsal for the Sept. 11 opener against Carolina — and probably former Browns starting QB Baker Mayfield. The Eagles and Browns were well-behaved during the practice in which there was no tackling to the ground.

When owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam returned from Houston in March with Deshaun Watson under contract, the Browns' long search for a franchise quarterback — a fruitless 20-year odyssey — appeared to be over. The NFL's decision to appeal the six-game suspension for Watson handed down by independent arbiter Sue L. Robinson, who ruled he violated the league's personal conduct policy, has left the Browns in limbo and potentially considering other QB options for the 2022 season. Only days ago, the Browns, who have started a league-high 32 quarterbacks since their 1999 expansion rebirth and traded former No. 1 overall pick and four-year starter Baker Mayfield to Carolina last month, were prepared to be minus Watson for less than half this season.
