MILWAUKEE — (AP) — The New York Mets set a major league record with 106 hit batters this season when Mark Canha was plunked twice and Luis Guillorme once in Wednesday's 6-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Mets center fielder Brandon Nimmo hurt his left quadriceps while stealing second base and left after the first inning. Canha was hit near the hip in the third and the ribs in the fifth. He has been hit a big league-high 24 times this year and tied Seattle's Ty France for last year's high with 27. Batters were hit 1,875 times entering Wednesday with two weeks remaining.wftv.com

The Mets view the 31-year-old Naquin as a good all-around player who can start a couple of times a week against right-handed pitching. Rendon reaggravated a previous injury to the wrist during Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers and has not played since. Rendon, 32, has played in 155 of the Angels’ 384 games during the first three seasons of the $245 million, seven-year deal he signed before the 2020 season. Interim manager Phil Nevin said Thursday before the Angels began a three-game series at Seattle that Rendon seemed to be doing better and might be available to pinch-hit.
