A few months later, Michigan State — in the midst of an 11-2 season — announced a new 10-year $95 million contract for coach Mel Tucker. Well, on Saturday afternoon, Michigan State hosts the Buckeyes. This weekend, they are a 25.5-point underdog to Ohio State. In East Lansing, the concern is how a defense that couldn’t stop Washington and Minnesota will stand up against an explosive Ohio State. Besides, this is what schools such as Texas A&M and Michigan State almost have to do to be great.
wftv.comWeek 5 winners and losers: The most disappointing teams in college football
We're a little more than a month into the college football season and some teams with massive preseason expectations have already been major disappointments. The Sooners won four Big 12 titles in Riley's five seasons and made three trips to the College Football Playoff. The defense held Michigan State QB Payton Thorne to just five yards a pass and MSU kickers missed two field goals. Boston College WR Zay Flowers: Flowers had five catches for 151 yards and two scores as Boston College beat Louisville 34-33. wftv.comDominance breeds dominance: SEC talkin' season ends
ATLANTA – Three years ago, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey began touting the book “The Club,” the origin story of soccer’s wildly successful Premier League. The 2022 iteration of SEC Media Days lacked the seismic upheaval of last year’s version, when news broke that Texas and Oklahoma would be coming to the SEC in the coming years. We are confident in our collective strength.”That collective strength is what should have every conference that’s not the Big Ten concerned. “I’m competing all across the SEC, who host recruits at their biggest game,” Smart said on "SEC Now." When LSU and Alabama play, that’s where the biggest recruits want to go.
wftv.comSEC Media Days: Jimbo Fisher might have broken some scheduling news
Jimbo Fisher closed out 2022's version of SEC Media Days by speaking roughly as many words in his allotted half hour as the previous 13 head coaches had during theirs, combined. One possible solution: a nine-game conference schedule, with three permanent opponents and six rotating conference opponents. The eight-game conference schedule would feature one permanent rival and a rotating schedule of seven opponents; the SEC has played an eight-game schedule since 1992. "I think that's the one thing we're trying to do in college football. To me it makes college football special, the rivalries of college football, trying to keep as many traditions as you can with the expanding world."

The Big 12 and Big Ten are also considering how best to structure their conferences and determine a champion in future seasons. With a nine-game schedule, every other year teams would play more road conference games (five) than home games (four). Fisher also said he would welcome an annual game with former Big 12 and Southwest Conference rival Texas.

Florida State fires head football coach after less than two seasons
TALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) - Florida State University fired head football coach Willie Taggart on Sunday, one day after the struggling Seminoles lost 27-10 to its in-state rival, the University of Miami. "I spoke to Coach Taggart this afternoon to let him know of our decision," said Florida State athletics director David Coburn. He was head coach there from 2010-2012 after serving as an assistant from 1999-2006. Florida State had only two full-time coaches from 1976 to 2017 -- Fisher from 2010 to 2019, and legendary coach Bobby Bowden, who served 37 years as head coach. Defensive line coach Odell Haggins, a 26-year veteran of the FSU coaching staff, will serve as the interim head coach for the rest of 2019.
