LAKELAND, Fla. – A human trafficking suspect tricked an 18-year-old Lakeland woman he met on a dating app into thinking he wanted to be her boyfriend so he could instead take her to Miami and force her into prostitution, according to prosecutors. Both are facing human trafficking charges. Once there, he told the victim he ran an escort service and introduced her to Thomas, according to the report. Hopson is accused of sexually abusing the victim before driving her back to Lakeland. Both are facing charges of human trafficking, forcing someone into prostitution, renting space to be used for prostitution, deriving support from proceeds of prostitution and unlawful used of a communications device.

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Former North Miami Beach Commissioner Frantz Pierre has been sentenced to two years of community control with a GPS monitor followed by four years of reporting probation for taking bribes from a strip club owner, prosecutors announced on Wednesday. According to the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, Pierre pleaded guilty to taking $12,500 in bribes from the business owner for his city commission vote to allow extended after-hours liquor sales at the strip club, News 6 partner Local 10 reported. According to his arrest warrant, investigators found that Dean Tyler, the owner of Dean’s Gold strip club, paid Pierre the $12,500 in bribes from December 2013 to September 2014 to vote in his favor. Pierre also pleaded guilty to stealing $2,000 from the city through a fraudulent grant application, prosecutors said. Neither I nor the skilled investigators of my Public Corruption Task Force will ever allow that to happen.”Prosecutors said Pierre pleaded guilty to all charges.

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Postal and law enforcement officials are investigating after four dozen mail-in ballots were found undelivered at a post office in Florida. Postal Service Office investigators said Saturday they found six completed ballots and 42 blank ballots among piles of undelivered mail in a post office near Homestead on the Florida peninsula’s southern tip. Video taken by a postal worker shows they had been sitting there for more than a week. Postal officials did not immediately respond to an email Saturday asking how the backlog occurred and if anyone is facing discipline. The investigation was launched Friday after Florida House Minority Leader Kionne McGhee tweeted video taken by a postal worker of the piles of undelivered mail.

MIAMI A white Florida man has been charged after he pointed a gun at a Black homeowner and accused the other man of stealing a flyer from his own mailbox, authorities said. After the victim retrieved the card for Fucheck's real estate business, Fucheck drove back down the street, exited the SUV and began yelling obscenities at the victim, officials said. Fucheck accused the victim of stealing the card, despite the victim's insistence that it was his home and his mailbox. Officials said Fucheck pulled out a handgun and demanded the card back. Jail records didnt list an attorney for Fucheck who could comment on the charges.
