Raiders trade backup QB Nick Mullens to Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings have acquired backup quarterback Nick Mullens from the Las Vegas Raiders for a conditional 2024 seventh-round draft pick. The Vikings announced the deal Monday and said it will be finalized as soon as Mullens passes a physical. The Raiders will get the 2024 pick only if Mullens is on the active roster for at least one game this season. Mullens was 21 for 29 for 205 yards and a TD in three exhibition games for the Raiders this summer. The trade by Las Vegas clears the way for Jarrett Stidham to be the backup behind Derek Carr.

Cousins, Mond and Stanley were sidelined Saturday, leaving Jake Browning — who is vaccinated — as the only quarterback available for the open-to-the-public session that night. The Vikings, as of Tuesday, had the lowest percentage (70) of vaccinated players in the NFL, according to a person with knowledge of the data. His salary cap charge ($31 million) is the second highest in the league this season, behind Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. Cousins has a fully guaranteed $35 million salary on the books for 2022, with a $45 million hit to the salary cap in the final year on his current contract.

A number of the Senior Bowl players had shortened seasons or none at all because of the coronavirus pandemic. “No regrets of not playing this season,” Newman said. Notre Dame was picked Sunday over Texas A&M for the final spot, ending what little drama there had been. Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson and Ohio State have also held the first four spots in the AP Top 25 since Oct. 25. The Atlantic Coast Conference is the second league to have two teams in the playoff, joining the SEC in 2017. After sitting second in the CFP rankings for a month, Notre Dame was blown out 34-10 by Clemson in the ACC championship.
